Okay so i got the Tekna a couple days ago and i finally got to use it today and let me tell you guys this gun is unbelievably good. I tested it on an 04 trailblazer with black paint. ive been having lots of problems getting black paint to come out 100% from the first shot and ive been blaming it on the booth for so many years. so heres the test vehicle and panels primed, cleaned, and ready for color.

so traditionally i spray 2 coats of base, sand it with a thousand to get it super flat and then spray 2 more coats. this wasn’t the case today. i sprayed 2 coats and was like shocked at how silky smooth it turned out so i sprayed a 3rd coat which was probably unnecessary but i did it anyway. i sprayed the base with the 7E7 high efficiency air cap with out sanding the basecoat. i only tacked between coats. and here are the results. so far not sanding the basecoat saved me about an hour plus the cost of wet/dry paper and the mess that comes with it.

finally it was ready for clear. again i used the 7E7 air cap and traditionally i spray 3 coats of clear, wet sand and polish when dry. now this is where the results were so insane. i didnt have orange peel this time! that just saved me about 4 hours! plus the cost of the polishing materials. i do have a couple dirt nibs to remove but thats it. i can tackle them with the 3inch sander in like 20 mins. so far about 5 hours saved, and the clear consumption was about 20% less compared to the p.o.s hvlp i was using.

the money i have already saved using this thing on one job makes me consider buying a another one for back up. the only issue i had was the plastic cup is kinda small for my type of fleet work (mostly over all’) so im gonna order the aluminum cup and also im gonna try the HVLP 202 air cap for basecoat.

Not sure if its just my computer or what but I can only read about half of your review on this gun. Its like the page is too small. I am very interested in what you have to say about it. If you could, will you repost the report?

looks real good! what tip are you using?

    January 12, 2010 at 8:17 am #18580

i used a 1.3 tip with the 7E7 air cap. but to sum it up in a nutshell this gun is awesome for both basecoat and clearcoat. its like having two girlfriends lol. i had the finishline by devilbiss which idk if it was defected or its just not good but this Tekna gun is like everything the finish line wasnt. its really light and cleans easy. it sprayed the basecoat super silky smooth. i never had results with black basecoat or perhaps any color coming out so flat with out sanding between coats. it took 2 less coats of color so thats almost a quart and half of reduced product. with the clear it layed it down perfectly and i wasnt using any 500 dollar a gallon clear either. overall it saved me an hour of not sanding the color and will save me another 4 of not having to cut and polish orange peel. thats alot of time for just one job. now imagine what it could do for the guys who spray a few cars a day. but like i said im gonna buy the 202 cap and see how it performs and im also gonna upgrade to the aluminum cup since its bigger and i thought the plastic cup was kinda small. i bought a regular guage for it, HAV 511 and it worked perfectly. it doesnt use up alot of air either i think it was at 20 psi but it wasnt slow or fast. it was like perfect speed. from what i herd about the RP, the 7E7 produces identical results for far less money. i love this gun

Looks great! I love the outlines of the doors on the wall. Is that so you know where to put the doors when you are done? Kind of like my peg boards have the outline of my tools so I know where they go.

im using Morton 40 Glamour clear. it sprays easy only 2 coats are really needed and buffs great. its also pretty damn cheap. i get volume discount on it since i buy and use alot of it. but ive been using this specific one for about 2 years now and its holding up extremely well.
