DB48 BLUE DYE BASE 40.2 758.9ooooh, i shot this color not long ago. i didn’t realize it until i looked at the formula. i cant really tell from the pics but what i determined was there was too much blue dye in the formula then you can just put an extra coat or two of the candy to get it darker. that should get it close.
I finally got this piece done. I took your advice jim and removed about 20% of the blue from the formula and got a very good match. Made a vid of the job:

I don’t spray candies to often so if you have any pointers let me know. Also curious what you typically reduce them with. My mixing machine told me reduce it like diamont but that didn’t sound right to me, I found one custom place online and most were suggesting 10% so thats what I did.well if the formula requires the bc00 then usually i reduce 10-20% or so, so you pretty much got it right. that bc00 is supposed to be ready to spray but man it always seems so thick to me so i usually just need that shot of reducer. some formulas i have seen will have you use bc100 which then you reduce it as you normally would with the diamont but these formulas are usually not true candies and have pearl or other toners mixed in as well as the dyes. looks good though from the vid.
Unfortunately the base has to be right code and painted to different pressures and speed to get different variations hence the need for three different sprayout cards or let down panels .This will usually give you a fair idea of how close you are .HOk candy was based more upon a 1k application while refinish systems tend to be basecoat oriented there is a basecoat catalyst that Ppg recommends that is necessary for long term durability against uv .
I prefer in most cases to make the midcoat with a few less drops than the formula so it will blend easier because of reduced intensity .
