    Hi fellas..

I have an upcoming project.. custom paint for a hand built bike.
Regarding the color it will be Standox 9093 VW BlackMagic

I was wondering if I could add few grams of the paint in the clear coat and shoot an intercoat of clear+base to give it depth..

Then re clear over the inter coat to give it protection..

I am going to use Standox Basislack – solvent based base and HBBody HS 496 Clear..

Also here paint reps do not supply clear base in order for me to mix a candy..

Can a candy be mixed as tinting clear coat to be used as intercoat??

    Thanks 🙂

Is this “Black magic” A black metalic if so I dont think you will get much if any more depth, I don’t believe that Standox recomends mixing there base into a clearcoat especially some one elses clearcoat. Good luck with your project. One thing I always wanted to try when I used sikens (base can be mixed with clear) Was take a black pearl paint a panel then take some of the pearl that was used in the formula mix it in the clear spray one coat then recoat with normal clear this should suspend some of the pearls and give some depth.

I will do a experiment to find the best possible formula and will post it here..

i do this all the time and you have no need to intercoat just use clear directly over as a final finishing coat ,as long as you dont go crazy base will mix with clears for a fuax candy or special effect ,i like to drop my pearls into the first coat of clear, this gives another dimension to them as the light gets at them better when they are suspended in the clear as oposed to laying flat as per a standard job ,most any clear binder will act as a carrier or “intercoat” clear but just remember it cant be built as high as 2K clear although the addition of activator in basecoats will give added stability for multilayer jobs

My project got cancelled ;(.. I had bought the materials and all, mixed the desired tinting and now.. kaput.. no project.. yes materials :S..

I might paint my rims and add 50/50 matte clear over them.. I don’t like shiny rims..

Don’t mix base with clear, some bases are polyester, acrylic etc so its not going to work with all of them. For the record no paint manufacturer is going to give you the green light to do it either.Doing art work or airbrushing on small parts is one thing but on the exterior of a vehicle put in the elements is asking for a failure. You would be better off using a clear basecoat binder(dbc500)to tint or make a candy.
