I get a Session TimeOut Page when I click the link, or copy and paste it.

    October 24, 2010 at 3:52 am #24614

Ok we can do this a different way
    1. https://www.basfrefinish.com/cgi-bin/capbsm/java/DirectLink.do?action=GuestLogin&menuName=HUB_MENU&directAction=Home&fromhttpsredirect=Y

Under BRANDS on top of page click on any brand

    2. On the left side click on Paint Information

    3. Choose Paint Defect Demo ,Or view the PDF which ever you prefer

Just some information on most likley encountered Defects(They might not be called the same as you know them).

Maybe my eyes are bad or something…but I don’t see any solvent pop. 1 or 2 of the epics look to have fish eyes to me, though. (which would be caused by contamination).
It’s solvent pop, from my understanding, from laying all my coats heavy / wet. This picture shows it well.

I’ve sprayed all my high build primers using the same setup and I didn’t have any problems. I did have the occasional water drop, but I’ve put a filter right before the gun and haven’t had any problems since.
Looks like fisheyes to me….

I finished the deck lid and the hood. I sprayed a final flow coat after sanding with some 600 grit. It came out almost as nice looking as a cut and buffed paint job. I’m very happy with the results. A couple dust nibs here and there, but what can you expect in a garage. ;D

I also resprayed the fenders. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong that I was getting solvent pop, fish eye, or whatever its’ called. I was just hosing too much paint on. They came out much better. Heck, I could leave them as is, but I’m going to wet sand and do a flow coat.

Thanks. Yup. Harbor Freights $35 hvlp gun, if really is an hvlp. It uses quite a bit of air.

😆 I’ve never touched a paint gun before this project. I tend to do well at most things I set my mind on, but I also do quite a bit of research before I dive into something like this. So I kinda school myself by reading books, reading online articles, join forums such as this, watched jimmo4life’s videos numerous times, and THEN I attempt it.

Don’t know what else to say. :cheers

I’m going to have to agree that most things aren’t that hard to complete adequately if you do the research, take your time and get trained watch somebody do it a lot. You chose Jimmbo, I chose him for painting and one other guy who posts videos, Bondomerchant for body work, Dig for business/shop practices, etc.

This forum has been an absolute gold mine for me and I will not even visit others because a certain amount of loyalty has been garnered here. Back to your comment, since I can use my hands pretty well, I have started to turn part of my garage into a paint/body shop. I researched many hours concerning positive air, negative air, air flow, downdraft, side draft, EPA regulations and the like. Then i started asking people on this forum and graciously they assisted.

The first video you posted showed you spraying very, very slowly and as the videos progress I see the speed you move the gun increasing (looks like a beginner getting better to me). It’s been 20 years since I had a spray gun in my hand, so I had to learn all over again, things have changed tremendously from what I remember (mostly regulations and far better equipment). OK, that’s all I have, sorry for the interruption.

i’ve read where some new guys like your self will put 4 coats of clear on then cut n buff.
i’m glad that you found out that if put 2 coats of clear on and resand with 6-800 grit, reshoot the clear it will be as slick, and looks as if not better than bufffing, not to metion, it cuts the time in half.
the hood looks really good. i’m glad you didn’t get caught stairing at your self while clear and run the piss out of the hood.
great job. a few more like this and you can turn pro..lol:whistle: :clappy

Looks great – from one garage painter to another. This forum is the best for getting real information from real pro’s.

your cheapo gun appears to have a bigger fan than my cheapos… I always hated them for that. I finally bought a nice gun last year, and I love it. nice smooth 12″ fan. much respect for your very nice looking paint job, especially with annoyingly bad guns.

Im gonna agree with Ben. That looks like fisheye to me. I dont see any solvent pop.

Hey guys, I finished painting my car and I had my buddy come and wet sand and polish. Came out real good.

Here is the car before he worked on it. Looks good / decent. I call it a 5 foot paint job. Shiny and smooth, but it had a couple runs, some dry spray and dust through out the paint job.

Here you can see the dry spray that was in a few areas.

Oh yeah, while I was changing some jets in my carb, my 3 month daughter decided to grab my tools. She normally doesn’t really grab and hold onto many things like she did this wrench. It was a proud moment.

Here’s Dave, hard at work. He arrived at the house at about 10 am and worked all day, until about 10 pm perfecting the paint / detail job. Fantastic!

Madison and my wife came to check out the progress and get in on the picture taking. They were having all the fun. Dave was wiping the car down with a protectant that still allows the paint to fully cure.

    And the drum roll………………………………………….

I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

Dave did such a fantastic job!!! My paint went from a 5 foot to I wanna still my face in it. If any of you in the Houston area would like Dave to detail you car I can give you his contact information.

    Thanks again, Dave!
