Anyone used any transtar products? Particularly clears and primers? opinions on it? had a rep stop in today and drop off some literature on it. I’ve never used any of it personally. Currently spraying PPG for base as well as ppg clears. The transtar price is better, but I’m curious about the quality.

just spoke to a kid that paints at a dealership. he said the transtar rep gave them some clear to try and it fisheyed on him. he told the rep and the rep took the clear had it analized, gave him a replacement batch and he had the same problem. if i were you i would try some cp440 primer from napa and some 15410 or 15420 clear as well. i have put those products up against glaso products and can see no diff.

I’ve used lots of Transtar before. Which product in particular are you talking about?
Never had fisheye problems from the products and the contaminents are always
    from somewhere else.

The Euro Classic Clear is probably the best thing they have going. The Euro Classic DTM primer seems
pretty good to (doesn’t sand easy but good build and low shrinkage).

Getting fish eyes is not a clear problem,
it’s a contamination problem from somewhere else, usually silicones.
If you add silicones to clear, it eliminates fish eyes, not causes them.
that’s what fish eye eliminator is, a little silicone added to your paint
    to make it compatible.
If it’s in your paint it helps, if it’s on your surface-you’re screwed!

Transtar is a quality product that’s been around for years that’s being used
by a lot of places. It’s not the paint.

the transtar rep told the painter that he had a bad batch and the new can of clear they gave him to try was out of a diff batch # where the problem had been solved. Yet when he sprayed it he had the same issue so he put a coat of DCU2042 over the top and they disappeared. He sprays 2-3 cars a day and only had an issue when using the few times he tried that clear. He also tried some of the euro clear with no issues.

Wow, sounds like it is the paint.
I hope it’s not on the shelves currently for sale
