However… If you want pretty damn close to perfect (IMO).
Get the SPI MS clear. It’s similar to the 7311 but it’s clear clear.

Hey Ryan, why do you call the Transtar a lower brand or budget clear?
Where have you seen that the UV is lower?

If it’s lower, then maybe it’s not for me.

you guys have me confused. Sounds like there is a few guys that support the brand they like to use or carry.

those were takin about 15 mins after i shot it not bad for 80 a kit 😉

Around here Transtar is sold as a lower end line. Not saying it isn’t nice just lower priced.

I use to think that higher priced always meant better but not so much anymore. I was told by a guy at Dupont school that for a gallon of clear the can cost more than what was inside. Alot of the cost is in the marketing, R&D, lifetime warranty, employees, and putting their name on a race car.

Some of the costs involved with some of the newer clears is getting them to look nice and also dry quickly.

I have heard some of the cheaper clears will skimp on the UV inhibitors.

I have shot some of the Finish 1 clear that Bondo uses. It is on my wifes car next to Spies clear. They still look exactly the same. Big price difference also.

ABSOLUTELY true. This is not public knowledge at all. Another example
would be sunglasses; The packaging costs more than the $200+ price tag
of say…Oakley, Varney, or any other spendy pair of plastics. Got this
info. nearly 20 years ago from someone working for Varney; maybe $0.10
in plastic material but $0.75 in the packaging!! Got more examples
    but ya get the idea…

Consider all things we buy. Look around your home/shop…how much do
we pay for a role of 3M masking tape? This paranoia goes on and on.
It’s much easier to not think about these things and just buy into
the propaganda spread by large corporations; which IMO are all corrupt.
Think Enron, AIG, Wall Street, etc…

Granted, there is a quality difference with higher priced clears but
how much?? Who do you trust? And that’s what it comes down to. So,
    i don’t mind shooting a $100 dollar SPI clear on a 100K+ dollar
car. The trust and quality is proven.

I dont know Bondo SPI stuff is pretty nice stuff and the price is good, Good enough that I have enough left over to buy decent BEER! :exci :rofl

If I could get that Transtar Euro clear at 130 a kit I would use more of it my Jobber charges WAY more than that for it.

Nope, that’s just the way that $75/kit Napa clear looks off the gun.

    Good Stuff.

Hows the durability on that Napa clear? Does it have an amber cast to it??

    February 2, 2010 at 3:37 am #19176

The durabilty is excellent. I’ve been using it for a few years now, so far no problems to speak of. Stuff is damned near bulletproof.

As for what your calling a amber cast,, that depends. While it’s not a crystal clear as some others I’ve used it’s much more clear than any of the other Napa clears I’ve used over the years.

I wouldn’t hesitate to call it a water clear clear if that’s what your asking.

Maybe bondo will take a pic of a puck for you.. It’s all he uses.

1 gallon of clear & 1 quart of activator = 5 QTS sprayable for $75.
