Okay so my first post on this site is not going to be a proud one. For the record I know my way around paint, ive worked in the trade for five years and have done a few projects of my own already. Typically ive sprayed with PPG Envirobase. I just dont want to come off as a hack but anyyways heres my situation!
I am doing a project for my dad, quick job this truck is going to be used as a work truck. Im planning to get a white direct gloss paint to use, whether it be through my shop or somewhere else. He wants me to use this oil based tremclad primer though…and im unsure. It says it has corrosion protection but im unsure about filling capabilities and more so im unsure if my paint will even adhere to it. Since im using a DG paint it will be solvent based so im thinking maybe I wont have a problem. As for the fill, ill be testing that tomorrow on a scrap peice of sheet metal, also note I wont be using sealer either.
November 18, 2012 at 7:41 am #39316Who knows what could happen, but there are an awful lot of decent low cost 2k urethane primers out there that are less than $100 for a kit(upol, carsystem, proform)Just tell your dad for the extra $50 for a decent primer its not worth having a reaction or a redo. Welcome to the site 😉
