    Hey all!

So IIRC, Canada will convert to waterborne by Jan.2010. From what I’ve read, I need
clean air flow to help fasten the BC flash time.

I was wondering, can I use a hairdryer on “cold” setting? (some have hot, warm, cold settings)

I’m just a hobbyist and paint mostly one panel at a time, sometimes three.

So what do you guys think? Can it be done?

Yes but use heat. A heat gun works better. Don’t get super close, just blow across the panel. The heat will pull the moisture out quicker. I use a heat gun at work all the time when jambing stuff out in the shop.

I concur. A heat gun works great for little blow-ins and small panels. A hair dryer is a decent second choice though, especially if it’s one of the pro types where you can set it to low air speed and high temp.

As said, don’t get too close early on or you’ll just blow the paint around! Heat and air movement, that’s what you need 🙂

I do have a Makita heat gun, I thought it was too hot to be used for waterborne. Thought
by using hair dryer on cold setting I’d have the same temperature and air movement as those air dryers designed for this purpose.

    Thanks for reply guys!

As Ryan and I have said, that heat gun will work – just don’t get it close or as you say, it will be too hot. Hanging back a bit with it will give you a nice warm breeze across the panel, exactly what you need 😉

When I use WB primer, I find that the hair dryer works a lot better than a heat gun. Hair dryers put out a lot more air and less heat. It’s the air flow that is going to get the job done. I have even used a box fan to blow across the area. Just my 2 pennies worth.
