    doing a 1981 gmc step side 18footer on the weekend, has old old lacquer on it. will be buzzing it down with 220 and finishing in 400, aersol can primer for burn thrus and what not. I know ideally i should seal with basefix, but that is not an option and I am wondering what are the chances i may make a mess going over top of the old lacquer with no sealer.
    thanks

    using utech 200 for topcoat

    Spray on a coat of 350 epoxy with 5-10% 200 reducer or use 460 sealer,just do it man it will save you so much aggravation.

    ahhh i really do not want to have to seal this.
    think im gonna roll the dice on this one, its going from dark blue to lime green hopefully will cover in two coats :unsure:

    Trust me,the extra coat will save you time in the long run,if 2 coats doesn’t cover and you need a third what have you saved :stoned 2 coats will cover light gray,dark blue could be dicy with 200.Hope it all goes well for ya :p Why don’t you use 3.5 or 2.8?? If its going to be a rough one the 350 epoxy will help with the sins from the finish rake :p

    do you think 3.5 will cover better, I may get a price on the 350 tommorow, never sprayed before is it slow enough for a job this size?

    you won’t use as much 3.5 vs 200 and it stays open much longer for the large jobs,we use it on big trucks all the time.I would still use one coat of epoxy sealer though….just sayin….

    ya I grabbed a gallon of 350 for, and 2 3/4 gals of 200 single stage.

    Autosealer WB. waterborne sealer used for sensitive substrates and coatings. apply one to two coats, let dry, scuff if needed or go wet on wet non sanding with your basecoat.

    How did the job turn out? Any pics of it?

    That would be good on a bumper cover and nothing more , not on a big truck or a cube van.Honestly I think it is a crappy product,to sensitive to contaminates and it isn’t activated,it reminds me of the 1k sealers from the 80’s.utech 460 sealer or 350 epoxy is the winner here.

    It went well and i am very glad that I sealed it. :rock:
    color covered great with two coats, one nice coat of 350 sealer reduced it a bit. It was at least 28 degrees outside on saturday, found myself running a little bit to chase that wet edge inside the booth. will post some pictures tommorow. After 2 3/4 gallons raw originally, i have at least a 1/4 of a gallon left so it all worked out well!
