utech single stage

I need some recommendations on what utech single stage to spray. I have a fiberglass endcap that I am painting all over. From my understanding they have changed the utech single stage lineup. I don’t know if you can get the old setup or not. I loved the 3.8. but I am supposed to demo some 350 tomorrow. Not really sure what to expect. Hopefully Jason will chime in here, I think he sprays alot of the utech single stage.

We lost our utech system at the end of June,our supplier was starting to have trouble getting tinters as they are discontinuing the system by the end of the year.Not sure I can help you much,but the 3.5 was pretty good,I would think that 350 will very similar.I have heard good things about the new utech system but haven’t shot it.Please let me know how it works for you.You should still be able to get the old stuff until the end of the year,so I’m told.
I can help with any questions. The new system is pretty nice. Some differences will be better coverage, the accelerator selection is easier, the coverage is also better. Most floors in the 350 and 280 system are 1 coat cross coat coverage. It also hangs a lot better, it’s pretty hard to run.
I like spraying it with a 1.4 RP. It will seem a tiny bit harder to wet up but just put it on there. It holds one hell of a gloss.
I just shot the first two coats on the end cap. Started out with my lph400 1.4 combo and quickly switched over to a w400lv4 1.4. Just couldnt keep a wet edge with the lph. Kinda expected that though, was trying to keep the overspray down. I like the way you can slam it on and not have to worry about running it. It covers really well. I will let you know tomorrow how it buffs. I am using it to paint end caps on travel trailers. I was just base clearing them before but I figured I would try the Utech on this one.

Well started sanding and buffing on this thing today. Did a quick wipe sand on it with 800 wet, the knocked out all the trash with 1000 then 1500. Let it gas out for a few hours then hit it again with 1500/3000 da. It buffed fairly easy using just a foam pad and wizard mystic cut. Overall I think I am pretty happy with the system. I have got to get a better setup to paint these end caps though. Climbing up and down a ladder made it impossible to keep a wet edge while I was painting. I managed to get a few runs in it. But I kind of expected it with some of the hard to get to areas that I had to do. Basically had to narrow my fan down and hose it on like a squirt gun in a few spots. Just couldn’t get the reach on it. Still not real sure on how long to wait in between coats though. The data sheet said that you can put your first coat on then cross coat your second one. But I normally try to put at least 3 coats on these things to allow for plenty of buffing. So I am not sure if it would be best to allow each coat to get hand slick before applying the next one.

ive been spraying nearly nothing but utech for nearly two years now but recently switched to the new utech line and im not sure if this is a common issue or not but its not hardening as quickly as the old 3.8. anyone experience this? other then the dry times its still really nice stuff to spray. i agree with ryan that its harder to run but knock on wood.
It does seem to take longer to dry,we noticed that when we switched to 3.5 from the 3.8.I have not used the new system but I would imagine you could improve dry times with one of the appropriate accelerators.
