Well if you go to the top of the page I mentioned the need for accelerator :p When it comes to paint only deal with Randy at Offshore,he is an old painter with 20 years experience and he knows what he is talking about,the other guys except perry the owner are just counter guys.They don’t have time to ask these questions they just assume you are using a booth.So now you are prepared for the next time 😉
In my experience, with Sikkens low VOC product and LPH400, you have to spray it higher than what is stated on the air cap. I spray at 21psi going into the gun; it slow slow but it will do the job. It’s okay for a couple of panels. The higher PSI will help with the peel. Pop the Colour/clear part on a heater or a hot bucket of water, it’ll help it flow better when you get to spraying too – it might even help with flash time too.
Make sure you’ve got the air-supply to handle the higher CFM compliant guns too. The Sata RP is know to be an air hog. Albiet an nice hog.
I’ve never sprayed Utech, but quite of bit of compliant and non-compliant Akzo clears.
April 26, 2011 at 1:15 am #30500I’ve been bidding on eBay looking for an RP…then when I was in picking up supplies I noted that I can get a SATA 90-2 RP locally for $300 (PN 123240) with a 1.3 tip. Any reason NOT to buy this gun?
April 26, 2011 at 3:45 am #30502I don’t think the 90-2 are very good if I remember correctly. The old Sata 90 was good. I think jayson knows more about the two models.

I just pulled the trigger on a used Sata Jet 3000 RP with a 1.3 tip. We’ll see how that goes.
April 27, 2011 at 4:02 am #30521Hey canuck good score on the 3000rp;) The sata jet 90-2 is a reduced pressure spray gun,it is basically a glorified primer/sealer gun,not at all like the old jet 90.
April 27, 2011 at 4:55 am #30524I got it for $280 plus shipping – if I can’t get it to work I’m going to have to quit :rofl . I’m really looking forward to getting it in an giving it a try. I’m not letting go of the Iwata just yet…it’s been a really great gun.

May 16, 2011 at 8:27 am #30883It’s been a long week – but I think the work on my garage booth has paid off. As I was waiting for my SATA 3000 RP to show up in the mail, I got to work on the air supply. I added another 24′ of 3/4″ copper tubing to my network ending in about 20′ of 1′ copper in a maze to a drip leg and a water trap. From the compressor to the spray gun connection (about 60′ of line) I measured only 10 lbs of pressure drop. In the quest for increased flow I got 50′ of new 3/8″ line with high flow fittings. I also changed out the small 1/4″ ball valve at the regulator for a 3/8″ unit. I then took the digital regulator (cheapo model from Princess Auto) that I had on my gun whip and tossed it in the garbage (I took the gauge off it first) – then welded up a new connector that uses only the gauge. I’m now setting the pressure using the wall regulator and using this gauge to test the pressure at the gun.
Whew! Now for the fun part. The RP arrived and needed a really good cleaning. I replaced a bunch of seals that were either warn or missing. The new air supply makes (I think) a huge difference, but the RP was just NUTS…I’m really glad I didn’t get the 1.4! I had a touch-up job to do on a buddies car (off to a car show next week) and I had to paint the rear fender lips and spray a replacement cowl. This is the same car that I tried the U-Tech 3.5 out on…and had all the trouble. Well, I’ve got to say the RP is a monster. The job came out very well and with the fluid backed out all the way then back in a 1/2 turn and the pressure at 28 psi, I was painting at a rate that I haven’t moved at since the 80’s.
No time to think – just a rhythm, pull the trigger and MOVE…watch the wet edge and overlap. Got a stupid grin on my face…this gun rocks :rock . Thanks to Jayson for the suggestion.
