i need help, i just finished painting my car and i got rid of the orangel peel with 2000 grit sandpaper, then i used ultimate compound from meguiaers to get rid of the scartches form the sanding,
at first it did give me the mirror finish but if you look at it on the sun light yu can see the scratches am i missing something here could anyone give me some info pleaseAnonymousMarch 25, 2011 at 12:22 am #29783If its a dark color you’ll have to go over it with a finer compound or scratches from the coarse compound will really show. I’m not familiar with that compound but you typically have a few different steps switching to a finer and finer compound.
Is it the sand scratches that aren’t quite polished out or marks/swirl marks from the compound?
As MoCoke said, if they are still sanding scratches you need to keep compounding somewhat agressively. If they are swirl marks, you need to move up to the next finer compound/polish.
What type of polisher are you using (and at what speed). What kind of pad?
what clear did u spray? thats kind of a draw back of wet sanding because its easy for the paper to carry dirt and cause deep scratches. as suggested u mite wanna try using 3000 grit on a da to refine the scratches up a bit and start over. maybe switch to a compound that works better on a HS clear if thats what u sprayed.
