:wak I have been the only painter for twenty five years, I get a list of cars that need to get done and delegate who does what. I sometimes have to prep if something is not ready for paint, order the paint, and keep up booth maintenance. We have 2 down drafts. What I want to know ; I get paid twenty five dollars an hour and pay 25 a week for health ins. and get a 2,400 bonus for Christmas. I have not had a raise in five years, the increase in healthcare is considered a raise in my bosses eye. How does this stack up to the rest of you Top Guns out there???? I am not flat rate. Just would like a cost of living raise. Insurance Co. make it tuff on us as you know. The fat aint on the jobs like they used to be. I have been at the same place for soo long, I feel brain washed, dont really know what happens in other shops. All I know is that I have way too much stress anymore. Its not brain surgery!!! :exci
May 20, 2010 at 7:12 am #21366Well Im on flat rate. I have been a painter at a dealership for over 9 yrs. I feel that I am sickly underpaid for what the guys in my area are making. I have been banging my head on the wall over it for quite sometime now. You are making more money than I am  Thats why I am UNDERPAID PAINTER :rofl
In this area anywhere from $18-31 and hour book time, depending on experience etc.. Good painters are still clearing 100k in these parts, but its becoming less and less the norm.. I pay my head painter $30 plus benefits, vacation..
Is that 30.00 a clock hr? Or 30.00 a flag hr? How much is your labor rate?
May 28, 2010 at 7:07 am #21633I get 25 an hour, 40 hour week. Everytime my medical isurance goes up, my boss pays for it, and says consider it a raise. I havent got one in like 6 years!!! We Have 5 bodymen,1 assembler,1 prepper and 1 primer kid.I paint 25-30 jobs a week.It here in Bucks Co. Pa, if area matters?
May 28, 2010 at 7:48 am #21634I dont know what to tell you steve 🙁 I have been trying to get a raise for over a year and my boss wont budge. I was told that he could basicaly find anyone off the street to paint for him and for a lot less than I am asking for. I pay my own ins. Get paid for 5 holidays and 10 vacation days a year. I get a fruit basket for a christmas bonus. I get paid by the flag hour and its quite a bit lower than the going pay in my area. Its been extremely slow for us so Im not making squat right now!
May 28, 2010 at 1:49 pm #21636i dont think your doing too bad steve. you might not be getting rich but its not bad anyway. the cost of health ins is no joke either. we get ours through my wife’s job. she is the office manager so its her job to take care of that for everyone and every year the cost just goes up and up. last time i checked for us being on the family plan was over $1200 a month. that alone is worth about 10 a hour.
