Time to update my 8″ and 6″ sanders. What are you guys using in the shops vacuum, no vacuum systems. I have not used the vacuum systems and I thought I would ask what’s prefferred.
I use rupes dust extraction system like in the pic below
I have two sanders connected rupes palm sander 6″ soft pad for primer flatting etc
and i have a dynabrade sander with a hard pad filler work.
I bought the swinging arm and hoover set up through ebay, it was a bargain 😉

AnonymousJune 2, 2009 at 5:13 pm #14567I was using Norton multi-air for a while but have recently changed to 3M’s vacuum system. It sucks up the dust and packs it in a disposable filter attatched to the sander. It’s a really handy system & the paper lasts forever.
This might interest you. But you’ll need to sign up.

For course sandpapers this is the way to go. Gotta ditch the stick it type as the velcro is superior.
June 2, 2009 at 11:12 pm #14595We’ve got a fully plumbed in extraction system with 12 outlets (or should that be inlets? )
We’re exclusively Mirka for our air sanders (although I have a couple of electric ones as back up) Three 6″ palm sanders (ROS650CV) connected to vac hoses and a fourth one that’s free to roam around. A small orbit 6″ finishing sander (ROS625CV), and three baby 3″ sanders (ROS325CV)
June 3, 2009 at 1:15 am #14599I’m guessing they do a good job at keeping the dust contained. I tried to look at the “Autobody store” on this site but the pages aren’t loading correctly.
June 3, 2009 at 1:28 am #14600Very much so. For filler sanding we’re using Mirka Autonet discs which leave virtually zero dust behind. Combined with their blocks and Abranet sheets, it means our shop looks like this all of the time:

It was a brand new building when I walked in almost 2 years ago, and the owner likes to keep it looking that way 🙂
June 4, 2009 at 10:49 pm #14630We do get a little bit of work done in between cleaning sessions 😀
If you look at the 5th picture, you can see the vacuuming attachment that I made nestled next to the oven door. Hook that up to the dust extraction and you’re cooking 😆
We’ve also got something like this for washing the floor with every week:

It gets a bit OTT at times (like washing and polishing all the ducting behind the booth!), but there’s nothing finer than walking into a sparkling clean shop on a Monday morning. And the less dust you have kicking around, the cleaner the jobs 😉
