Hi, this looks like a great source of info! Firstly I know next to nothing about car paintwork 🙂 I’m more of an engine and turbo guy 😀 So I’m hoping you can help.

Please find attached photos. I’ve come to realise that I have a small patch where I think the bodywork has been filled over a dent or something. I can just about feel the change of texture if I run my fingers over the small area. I didn’t notice this when I bought the car but I did notice some redness on the polishing cloth when I last gave the car a good clean (clay, autoglym SRP and FinishKare 1000P Sealant). The Autoglym polish I’m told is non-abrasive and of the filler type.

I’m thinking that the paint job that was done over this area is a big mickey mouse. I suppose the best thing would be to get it sprayed again. However is there anything I can do to stop it getting worse in the mean time? Not polish the area at all maybe? Or is there some kind of pigmented non-abrasive polish I can use in the mean time?

    Thanks!

Hard to say but it looks as though either someone did a spot repair without clear coat (also known as single stage) or the clear came off in that area. Either way it’s a simple fix.

Upon further examination of the pics, I’m leaning towards the clear coming off. If you keep polishing it eventually you’ll wear through the color. Get it “spotted in” and call it done.

Ah cool, that sounds cheaper than I thought! So your saying basically it just needs a new clear coat applied to that area? Are there some clear coats that arn’t very good and come off; are some water based perhaps? I would just like to try and ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
