Yeh I use a 1.3 t2 set up and it works great for me on both ms and ha. With the ha I have up my psi a little.
If any has anything different or I’m wrong put my rite guys ha haNo worries I’m here to help and try my best to past on the little I know as I wouldn’t say I know a great deal compared to most
March 20, 2013 at 10:19 pm #42279I would say swap your fluid tips around, 1.2 for base is okay on smaller jobs but 1.3 for a high solid clear would be better than a 1.2 in my experience.
Try not to mix products either, I know we all do it but UPOL products are reasonably cheap so just use the right hardeners. A good quality thinner is also a good idea. Try to match your hardener and thinner speeds too.
From your pictures I would guess you need to move in a little closer, be braver and let it go on wetter. You will probably get runs if your new to it but you will learn how it flows and how far you can push your luck.
Id also warm the area but either direct the heater away or turn it off whilst painting, they do kick up alot of dust.
I run my guns with the fluid and fan wide open, around 28-30psi for clear.
If you cannot salvage the job you could always wet sand it with 800 and grey scotchbrite and re- clear coat it, this should get you a nice flat finish as it would be a flow coat.

March 20, 2013 at 11:56 pm #42287I have to paint on the panels on a 1973 Universal 445 tractor that’s getting fully restored. Will be using Max Meyer 2k direct gloss.
Then I have to fully respray a 2004 old shape Caddy
Then I have to repair a Chrysler 300c with a dent on the rear arch
Then a dented rear door on a 2004 Vitara
Then some light rear quarter damage on 2006 Hilux
Then a full respray on shitbox camper van that’s worth around 100 quid! It’s just difficult trying to start off on your own buying equipment. I never have any money buying things for work! I need to buy some more sanding blocks, masking paper dispensers, a hammer and dolly set and finally, for now, one of these:

I’m only gonna take on nice small jobs so that stud welder set-up would be great.

March 21, 2013 at 12:22 am #42291i’m in ireland so it’s a pain getting things from the uk. i’ll check out those tool places though, i know a lad in england that comes over and back to ireland so i could always get stuff delivered to him.
March 21, 2013 at 12:31 am #42294U should be fine in Ireland as I live in guernsey which is closer to France then England the only problem I have to get a courier which add to the cost but it pays off when I do a big order. With Dtc I get
Masking tape
Masking paper
Fillers and putty
Etch
Filler primer
Clear coat and hardener
Polish and wax
Wet and dry papers
I normally spend round 1200 🙂March 22, 2013 at 12:10 am #42308got it finished anyway!

March 22, 2013 at 12:25 am #42314Hey mate looks great, I saw you used the farecla g3, did you put a wax on it. The farecla wax top is great but it’s £25ish so you can try a g3 in the black bottle it’s the same stuff, half the size half the price.
Attachments:March 22, 2013 at 12:33 am #42315no wax, i didn’t think u were supposed to wax for a few months until all the solvents had been released?
I only used g3 cos it’s what i had at home. i’m gonna buy the new farecla premium range stuff. it looks great. from detailing world they retail at around £19, £20 and £10 gloss enhancer. i was in my local motor factor and they wanted 40 euro for one of them!March 22, 2013 at 1:08 am #42317Hey you might be right bout not waxing. But in my eyes I don’t like to send the car out naked. You wouldn’t go out in the rain with no clothes on ha ha, try ulimatefinish for all your polish etc they have everything, I tend to buy a cheaper wax ie g3 super wax for every day car and put it on for free. For the top end cars a better wax.
A good little trick is to ask them if they want a top wax put on and say that if so they get a auto glym shampoo kit free. Know the wax say cost £30 plus and hour labour and they get a £7.50 shampoo kit to them. And spash out on a air freshener as well and they got nuts for the free stuff that you buy in bulk which cost you next to nothing 😉 win win
March 22, 2013 at 1:48 am #42319Hey John do you do valeting and detailing. I have noticed that let’s just say a guy in a suit turns up and wants a leaflet on prices and products. He will check up them up on the net when he gets back home. So I tend to have a quick chat ask what he’s doing at the weekend etc to find got if he wines and dines out, you find out that he drinks lets say whiskey after a meal,
That’s the biting point when I say ill do you a deal of you buy the full detail costing x amount ill give you a bottle of you favourite whiskey costing £30 he won’t say no as its his favourite and he’s getting it free from you plus your the one doing all the work ha ha.
It may sound like a wheeler dealer but it gets the spare work in you pay £30 and get the full price 😉 I’m not saying so it with every one just the ones which have the suit, clean shaven and you ask for a business card so you can call him when the cars finished,
i am currently using Upol clear and i realy dont like it,whilst a can get a decent finish off the gun it seems to die back especialy if i go for three coats ,also it doesnt like rocket or too much heat to quickly ,i also noticed if i go gor three coats it tends to peel and also die back and pinch up ,,not my choice of clear but the shop owners ,ive used cheaper that is better
oh and 29 psi is a tad on the low side for a compliant gun
