March 30, 2008 at 2:20 pm #10038I live next door to my shop. BIG mistake–but it does make for a short drive to work. It is just too tempting to wander over to the shop and clean that little mess up ot shoot some primer that will put me a full day ahead on Monday—
It really is rough when your business is also your hobby— I quess that is why I spend so much time learning how to properly PO the insurance Cartel by shutting them down at their own game, boxing them in and having them with not outs, just like they have had me, and all of us several times, in the past….
That is my passion, to keep the Cartel out of my business… My customer is my vehicle owner.

I also live very close to the shop ….3 or 4 hundred yards  and yah I run back and shoot a little primer some times or finish up a little painting but just little things …. painting at night is often something thats just gotta be done
April 6, 2008 at 2:22 pm #10101I do every once and awile to get ahead on some moster job but I live 30 miles from the shop and have 3 boys at home 5,7and 9 who need me more than someone who would replace me in 2 seconds if something bad were to happen to me( knock on wood that it doesnt )….
no weekends for me. I very rarely even do side work. I live the mode that if I can’t make it between six and five monday thru friday I don’t need to make it. Have done quite well thru my career this way. Besides, with kids and a wife, there are only so many hours where I get to do my thing and working weekends pretty much eats up any of that time.
April 6, 2008 at 6:44 pm #10115only lately on saturdays but wouldnt if the snow would melt at home!!

one of the painters at my shop made that mistake, he’s stuck their 24/7.
I work weekends. I’m in a different boat as I don’t work in a body shop – I run a Sherwin-Williams Automotive store. I started opening on Saturdays because some of my shops were open on Saturdays, so I wanted to be available if the needed anything to get a job done.
Additionally, everyone has my cell number, and it’s posted on the front of the store. Once in a while, I’ll get a call late at night or on a Sunday – someone trying to get something done and ran out of something … I’ll try to work with them to get them what they need.
Other than that, car show season is coming up. I sponsor a local car show, so, every Sunday I spend probably 10 or 12 hours getting to the show, setting up a booth, showing off the hot rod, talking to people…
