just looking over an older thread ben, noticed you said you didnt care for the AWX quite so much, that coverage was poor as well as the colours? Is AWX and AWX Performance plus the same line or is the latter an upgraded version of AWX.
I use water, and most of the time I don’t use blowers. Typically I let 3 minutes flash between coats…a little longer for some jobs depending on how I have things set up in the booth which affects the air movement. But nothing takes more than 5 minutes. I can honestly say, that in my opinion, water is faster than solvent most if not all of the time.

Not pushing products, but Sherwin Williams claims you can go from prime to shine in 40 minutes…it some instances that is definitely true.
Do you toss a quick bake on inbetween coats ben, or just letting the base sit? If its the latter, you must have some pretty serious airflow in your booth… to get it to flash by itself. Your spraying autowave right?

yeah it can be a shitty trade at times, on a side note, what do you guys think would be the pros and cons of having this trade regulated and unionized? I dont know about the states, but Im pretty sure most if not every province in canada has this trade unregulated.. The rate of pay for autobody repair and painting is horseshit, flat rate is the only way to clean up.

just out of curiosity did you use the sikkens 2 pack clear on the tundra or is that 250?

If I paint at all anymore, it is only using this stuff I dont spray any water anymore or use any nice clears..
Most of the time im not even in a booth at all…

it cant be worse than how fast it flashes using the transtar reducer even with slow, it flashes before it hits the surface :S

yeah the shop im at had pretty much a skid of those put aside for our shop and try to make em last lol
most guys dont use the aerosol anymore but there are a couple left that still believe that the aerosol is better than the wipes so…

when im using colorbuild i always stir my hardener with the primer thoroughtly before activating it, then toss it on the shaker for a few minutes. seems to flash way faster and sand much nicer this way. same thing with the high build, i put er on the shaker.

I meant 10 minutes using a trisk lamp
Haven’t used it, but if it has 3x the mil build of cbp250 then why would you need to bang on 3 coats
Why take a chance with spraying two coats just because it has the supposid “3x the mils”, even when bodywork finished in 220. Seems like your asking for trouble with anything less than three.

paint reps and tech sheets say 10 minutes is sufficient for baking. And Im not talking about 3 heavy coats with a sata, 3 medium wet coats with an accuspray with more than enough flash time…

I havent used a 2k etch primer in probably 5+ years, most of the old good ones arent compliant for use in canada anymore like the washprimer 1k CF(or was it 2k? Cant remeber). I remeber before compliance ppg had a really good 2k etch primer as well. Sikkens has recently discontinued or are in the process of discontinuing the aerosol 1kcf as well.. Now for the past 3 years have been using the Bonderite Auto-Prep wipes, which are supposidly better because its an actual conversion coating. Anyone else using the auto prep wipes or similar products?
Once you crack those wipes open..what is the theoretical life expectancy..or shelf life…are they a ‘one time use’deal?
to be honest i couldnt tell you, I was told by a paint rep couple years ago that the wipes can be used multiple times.. so usually if the wipe I have used is still in good condition and still has plenty of product left on it I will throw it back in the container and re use..
