The pumice stones are made by Meguiars. They come in 1000 and 2000. They take a while but I’ve used them to get some pretty nasty runs out.

I use a Sata NR2000HVLP with a 1.3nozzle set a bumper usually takes 12oz of DC5100 clear. I was thinking of changing to a 3000 but my foreman said if it aint broke don’t fix it.

When they introduced Onyx to us our rep recomended reducing solids 100%. If you’re in a dry low humidity area you could try HB004.

Our rep just came in with this product last week. We’re interested to give it a shot. I’ve been shooting Onyx for 2 years now and the only time that I had a problem with adhesion is on repaired bumpers that my preppers over used AM800. We have since thrown the AM800 in the trash.

Pumice stones work excellent on runs as well. They take a little longer but they don’t “give” like sandpaper. I’ve got many a run out that way.

I love my SATA, but they sure are pricey. I would love an alternative that’s reliable. Stay away from Sharpe, I have one and the trigger sticks constantly.

I have no idea. It was a shop gun and it was about 14yrs ago

My main concern is how well will the gun hold up over time. I know when I pick up my SATA it’s going to work 99% of the time. When I pick up my Finex most of the time it doesn’t. I tried an Iwata a few months ago and it sprayed excellent. My problem is that it looked a lot like my Sharpe inside. Years back I did use a Star gun that looked like a SATA jet90 and it sprayed just as well. I wouldn’t mind trying one of them again.

We use Onyx where I work. The rep just stopped in today and gave us some info on using it as a solvent borne system.

Why not just shoot your color straight to the end staying away from the hood and deck? The bumpers, hood, and deck always show different. I know it seems like the easy way out but most of the time it works the best.

How much flash between coats for five? I know if I go up to 3 coats the flash time goes way up. 5 in one shot seems a bit excessive and I’m surprised it doesn’t wind up on the floor of the booth.

I find it kind of funny to see the words high quality and china in the same sentence. I personally prefer SATA myself. I own a Smart Finex mini gun and I’m not sure if its made in China but the quality seems to be on par with them. I also do own a Titan 2.2 gun, that I bought to shoot some Gelcoat, for $30. I love my SATAs but I would live to know why they cost so much more now than a few years back.
The way I see it I could get good results out of a cheep gun but I doubt a DIYer would be able to.
