just prime it!

then sand the rest of the week until you got a nice day for painting. if you paint it inside the garage and you’re scared of not covering everything just go around the car with a flash light and check for coverage. sand the base coat with 1500 dry if you have any imperfections then another coat of base and you’ll be set for clear 🙂

don’t rush it! 3,000$ worth of materials, better be safe than sorry.
$3000 worth in materials?
whoops! meant 300 :nothingtoad :lol1
Why don’t you convert those guns to a plus compliant(like an rp) gun.The GTI is slow,an air hog and not that great of a clear gun, tossed mine 12 years ago, would never use one again. The best gun going for devilbiss is a tekna.
aaah! yeah been wanting to do this but keep forgetting… i would rather have a plus than a GTI though! my fault for getting the GTI’s… i believe they both the same price too! or maybe 10$ more or so.
I use a 1.4 in my GTI for clear. If I remember the GTI comes with a 1.3 & a 1.4 when you buy them.
yep! i believe it even includes, 1.2 and 1.5! well at least mine did

    October 6, 2011 at 3:18 am #33400

i got 2 GTI’s that i use every day. 1.3 for base, 1.4 for clear… works fine for me
How do you actually blend the paint as to not see where the paint ends? Would you just keep going a little beyond the repair with each coat, so as to not have a paint edge?
you answered your own question! 🙂

each coat a little further.. 1st coat a little beyond the sealed area that was repaired… 2nd coat further than the first, etc. until it covers.. make sure to fan your coats so it doesn’t leave an edge. a little reducer in the sealer so it lays down smooth, depends on the product your using but yeah… then clear the rest of the panel. make sure to scuff it up of course.

Hope this helps, $ good luck!

welcome!

what you spraying from dupont. that’s what I’m using at the shop I work for :P
We were spraying Chroma Premiere Base with G2 4500s clear, loved that stuff for the past 15+ years.

Last week we made the switch to PPG Envirobase HP with the new DC 2000 & DC 4000 clear.

The DC 2000 only needs a 10 min bake, super quick !
cool, cool! we got that here. i have a feeling they’ll be switching to something different soon.
gotta alot of stuff from dupont, even cheap nason LOL :lol1 hoping they switch to house of kolor, $!
or i’ll just make it look so good that he’ll have to have me do the rest of the car
lol :lol1

we had people come here and try to spot their faded paint!
with no blending, not like it matters lol… some people just don’t get it.

i would’ve blended the whole side.. wet sand it and buff it, i doubt he notices the difference. maybe? since half of the car will be looking nice and shiny lol

i wouldnt even paint that door if he didnt want any blending unless he signs for it
knowing that it won’t match.. ( i think i still blend the sides, even if he didnt want to lol )

good luck! hope all goes well.
