The paint stripper was only for the needle/tip (with seal removed) and the cup taken apart was soaked. I did a MAJOR cleaning of EVERYTHING and even used a pressure steamer. Seem to be good but I now it’s not a metallic virgin anymore…. 🙁

I used the base for about 4 years. I loved it! Color match was good, good documentation and coverage was freakin awesome (to the point EVERY line I try after Pro Spray falls short). Only reason I don’t use it is the area rep for new Mexico SCREWED all the shops they used it by pulling the line before they had another shop carry it. Other than that I would go back right away….

Sata 4000 digi, 27 psi, 1.3, wide open when hot and material about 3 turns in (10% reduced clear too) when it’s cold and fan control about 75% in (about 5-6″ fan 4-5″ from vehicle). I’m a close and fast sprayer so I tend to overlap abot 80%. Like glass or sags, depending on my mood….

Last one I saw was $6,000, rough shape and 2000 miles away. Plus running it will kill me in gas bills….

I’m using solvent (a cushade). Color has been good so far, 85% mix and spray. The othe percent is blendable or just needs a tweak or two. To many alternate though! GM 928L and Chrylser PA4 have like 13 to 17 alternates plus the primary! No joke but I just mix primary and tweak it from there. Matrix has promised me a full set a brand new complete alternate chip book set. Well see….

I put matrix in my shop a little while back. It’s okay base and it’s great for what I do (high production dealer work). It’s not really great at one thing but it’s good at all. Clears are good and fast, primers are a bit thinner than I’m used to but are overall good. Overall I’m happy with the system…..

De grease, tack and use a direct to metal primer before it grows brown fuzz….

Yeah, the first one is a hydro transfer graphic. It’s a base coat, the a pattern then clear. No way you can mask that kind of detail, the other two hand guns are simple masks. The base is a 12:1 matte single stage, I heard it was Sherwin based. Dunno but it’s pretty strong stuff…

    Iwatas are great……
I use them to prop the booth door open. I jam em in there real good like, and the doors don’t close no more when I pull cars out.
    :rofl

Seriously though, we throw them at the stray pigeons around the shop.

    BTW I like SATA….

Adhesion promoter is itself a flexing agent to some degree. I use so my paint doesn’t flake off, that’s a warranty issue. However, say I paint a bumper and the customer bumps a car in a parking lot six months later and spiders the clear. How would this be the printers fault? Even if it broke off some clear, the driver hit another vehicle. So in my mind it’s not a warranty. You also want repeat customers, not saying rip them off with a crappy paint job but if it’s bad enough that they (or you) think it’s a warranty issue it was bad enough to be re finished. Again, do it right and it’s the customers fault for hitting something….

I use sprayable bull dog in all my bare bumpers. I clean the plastic with hot water, dawn soap and scuff. Then spray a light coat of bull dog, let flash a few minutes then one more full coverage coat. I let that flash for 10-15 minutes, then spray my base coat. You really need to let it at least be tack free, if you don’t it will never dry or set up under the base/clear and will lead to huge problems down the road. I dont use flex agents, by the time it flexes enough to use it, it’s done more damage to the clear and needs refinishing anyway….

Well I’ll admit I’m not looking forward to doing my first two flat black completes, on two hummer H1s. Good thing is they are not garage queens and they get used hard. They don’t want perfection but there’s a lot of yardage on these trucks….
