I am a mechanic also. I decided about 8 years ago to learn paint and body to so that I could clean up used cars that I was selling. I also learned so that I could expand on the side work that I used to do.

Welcome to the forum :welc :welc :welc :welc :welc :welc

No you do not want to fill the scratch with filler. After some time in the sun you will be able to see the repaired areas.

Here is how I would do it:

Sand out the entire scratch and feather out with 180 on a DA. Sand out past the 180 area with 320. Prime with a DTM 2k Primer. Guide coat, sand and then paint.

    Welcome.

Good luck with your own shop, I hope it goes well. Do you know some experienced guys that you will have working for you?

    Looks nice and neat!

Don’t spray Paint and especialy clear coat with no shirt on!! Wear a suit. You can get them for less than $10.

Unless you have to dont push it so much, block, re-prime and then wait a few days then re-block and paint. Its better to let the primer sit for a few days (or longer) if you are able to.

What did you sand your filler work with before you layed down the Epoxy?

how did you remove the paint to get it to bare metel?
Are the scratches that are showing only where there is filler?

    Nice work, looks great!!

As long as you got good deep scratches under the body filler and the filler is not on super thick then its not going to fall off, it should be fine. But yes next time take the areas that will be filled to bare metal, or glaze with putty.

Seems like the puller that you got worked real well for you!

Did you keep track of the hours that you spent?

How many hours did you spend on the colorsand and buff?

Do you do all your colorsanding by hand, or do you ever use the DA?
