I’ve grabbed myself one of those hurricane or whirlwind things to try on the gun too.

I appreciate there will always be water but its never really been a problem before. I might replace the water trap it is as old as the compressor.

I did similar with a Vauxhall Victor I painted a few years ago when the factor was out of the correct tinter to make the correct shade of silver. Plain silver ground coat and then the colour matched basecoat on top…

    Certainly something to think about

    Not a bad idea!

thanks, I kinda thought that would be the case.

thanks again all. I managed, through careful use of a blade, not to leave so much residue on when pulling the rest of the trim which is proving easier to remove. I just have a light residue now which should come off easier.

Nice work. Stuff like this makes me realise my skills are weak!

BTW – what is “oil canning”?

    is that “Thankyou” button new?

I’ve found that keeping a blade very parallel has taken most of it off, also more care when removing the trim means more of the tape sticks to the trim and less on the panel. The 3M Stripe Off or Eraser wheel is what often is called a “toffee wheel” here. If I get the most of the tape off I can use one, it seemed too thick to use that initially.

Yeah Andy, the thinner wasn’t helping I guess.

the shot across the boot lid looks particularly nice.

One thing I think everyone has missed – which is if those are your only problems on your first attempt at a DIY paint job then you should be pretty pleased!

Once again thanks for the replies. You are probably right that COB is the way to go. I can wet sand and polish the clear and I am familiar with the application…

Thanks. I have an older suction feed high pressure gun, not a JGA but a similar design, this might be the better gun to use for this then.

By opposite direction do you mean right-left instead of left-right or do you mean go vertical passes instead of horizontal?

I tend to walk the length of the car as a pass, am I better passing a panel at a time with single stage?

One ore thing – I presume I “drop coat” it as I would do if it were a basecoat?

Thanks, will let you know how I get on

Yeah, I guess a quick single stage job would tidy it up enough to make a better price. I didn’t think of that. I usually do clear over basecoat on everything.

    Thanks for the input guys.
