Its an ’87 Cadillac not a ’57 or a ’07 so there is a diminishing returns thing to take into account.

June 22, 2011 at 2:16 pm #31400I am also an occasional painter working on my own projects and I will also tell you to keep off the stripper. It makes a mess. Maybe in a pro shop the guys can deal with that better but for the hobbyist its a nightmare.
I use stripping discs like the ones from Eastwood or sanding discs to strip old paint.
For surface rust I use a wire brush in a drill to clean it out. It has more flexibility than a sander to get in the pits the rust causes in the surface and you want all that rust out of all those pits.
