Done. Not perfect but good enough for a Cobalt. Pretty satisfied with the results I got being as inexperienced as I am. Thanks for everyone’s help, I <3 you guys.

September 19, 2011 at 10:40 pm #33016Could I trouble you to take the time to make a new video of just doing clear in real time? It’s my biggest challenge getting just the right amount and I’d like to watch your technique.
September 19, 2011 at 10:32 pm #33015If you haven’t done it before you should practice wet sanding and buffing on a spare panel. Do you have a buffer?
Pick up some 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and a small flex block (I use meguiar’s).
Wet the surface and begin sanding lightly. Stop often and dry the bumper and check for a smooth and uniform, dull surface.
Be EXTREMELY careful around edges and bends because you can sand through the clear coat in a quick second.
This is what you’re going for:

This is when you need the buffer, if you’re new, use a dual action as the are much more forgiving than a rotary.
I prefer Meguiar’s M105 cut compound followed by M205 polish.
Buff till it’s shiny.

Again, if you have never done this before, you will want to practice on a spare part because you will more than likely burn through.
September 19, 2011 at 8:31 pm #33012Awesome job as usual. Can you upload a a video of you laying clear in real time? It would help me out immensely.
also, I like your grass.
September 19, 2011 at 4:45 am #33001
so how much did you have to pay to have a model in the last photo
Only had to give her 1/2 of everything I own and the majority share of whatever is acquired since 2005. 😆

September 17, 2011 at 3:12 am #32953So how would I avoid this? Did it need to be primed first?
And yes, I wish I just left it.

I’m getting really annoyed now. FML.
September 12, 2011 at 8:36 am #32860I completely understand what you’re saying. 100% I run a detailing business so I get it. I’m now venturing into painting(on my own stuff and friend/family vehicles) and I’m just looking to satisfy that personal goal. The diver side is off just barely, it’s closer than the match on the stock rear bumper but the passenger side is wayy too noticeable for my satisfaction. I know I can do better and I’ll give it another shot when I paint to top of the hood later this week.
