Both of the orange wires are connected to the same gas line. I ran a 2 inch conduit from my center pit to the air supply corner of the booth. I was going to put in an air powered lift to raise the cars up, but that kinda went by without happening. I guess I’ll have to remove the plastic prefilter at the spray gun, or find a metal one. I want the gun and car to be fully grounded.
November 8, 2012 at 10:42 pm #38999
Im no electrician, but grounding to a gas line might not be the best idea. Just my thoughts.
All my other lines are plastic… I know that gas line is ground. As long as the gas stays inside the pipe … I really don’t expect it be sparking. It just seems scary.. B
November 8, 2012 at 10:23 pm #38997Today I received this anti static air line. It has a copper wire running inside with the air. http://www.hutchinsmfg.com/View-Product.aspx?group_id=67121 Then I used a wire to ground it to the steel gas line where I have another wire with a clamp to ground the car in the booth. Maybe this will help too.
The last pic is the wire I will ground to the vehicle chassis, I need a good clamp.

Attachments:November 8, 2012 at 6:19 pm #38988I worked for the same asshole for 14 years, he wanted me to keep the cost the same when we were doing 3 times the production as when we were doing very little. I tried to explain the when production goes up…so do expenses, he said he did not care. He just wanted me to do the impossible. Rikka , Your young and if your commited… the best thing you can do is start today figuring how to be YOUR OWN BOSS. I’ve been self employeed for the past 20 years and wish I had started sooner. My ex boss wanted me to be a partner in a new venture, I was thrilled, when it came time to split some profits.. he said..”Billy,Billy, you did not think you were going to be one of the buys? did you?” I was crushed. I knew that day… I had to find my own… Good luck Bill
November 8, 2012 at 5:00 am #38974I can’t speak for him…I never changed a roof. but when we weld panels. It has to be clean shiny to weld. Keep the welds to a min. that glue works. . Spray bomb weld through?. Dab it with brush prime? Good question?
November 8, 2012 at 4:39 am #38973I’ve never.. can you lift the edge and put a wire under the trim edge and paint around? ? See if you can get the parts salvage.. they get it off or they don’t get paid.. Is there a bar around here?
November 8, 2012 at 4:17 am #38970I checked your Sata RP… too small tip for me, but a sweet clean gun. I have on hand, a clear binder from Dupont Chromabase called 150 or 155.. I have used it that way too, I will use a slower than usual reducer in my base if i’m blending adjacent panel. Last week I got the insurance to extend the blend to the front door, and I painted the fender free so I did not even have to blend on the silver, and paint the whole side.
November 8, 2012 at 3:58 am #38967:rofl :woohoo: You got me on that one! The Matrix is very much like the RM. I used RM base for years and learnt that if it is silver use Diamont..The RM base you use lays wet right? I was using the enamel basecoat product. Yes.. that really is me in my avitar.
November 8, 2012 at 3:43 am #38965Shur ‘nough I should check more data sheets. This is what I have ..unopened white. http://www.matrixsystem.com/products.php?t2=9
November 8, 2012 at 3:35 am #38963
I’ve got in the habit of keeping left over mixed base, as it being silver and it will be inside and out on the bonnet I tend to use a left over silver first for the underside of it bonnet then put my mixed la7w base on top. I only do colours that take a lot to cover or having to paint under or inside new panels
Of course you do!, I do too because like you I have to pay for my own paint and materials. I have guys that work at dealerships and want to work here. They mix up 3 times of what they need because… they don’t have to pay for it 👿 Dollar saved….

November 8, 2012 at 3:28 am #38961
. Your paint job is only as good as what is underneath
Exactly… I tell my customers.. “if you paint over crap, you still have crap” My shop is empty right now and that is ok with me today. I knew and old man, rest his sole, that sealed everything. I’ll be starting a new topic just as soon as I get my next job. I had to go to a different supplier to get this 2K… I got the Matrix 2K Accushade sealer. says you can nib sand it after 15, “wet on wet” application lays flat.. Yall’ have any experience with this one? They only had it in white, I bet they can get a black too and you get the color you want by mixing.
November 8, 2012 at 2:50 am #38957No offence taken. I started this business in the backyard! .The reason I’m here is because I WANT to do better. I’ll check my new data that came with the sealer. How long should I expect the 2k saeler to dry before I base it? I found out the hard way if you paint over the Nason etch primer too soon it stains the topcoats with bleed through 😡
November 7, 2012 at 11:33 pm #38954I like the high ceilings in the shop there. That is the worst hail damage I have ever seen.. WOW!
