ta be honest brad i think alot of how profitable a shop is is in the management of the shop!it dont matter on the size but the ability of the owner ta manage his or her buiss.. doesnt even matter what buissness your in. a guy running a lean an mean operation can always retain more profit than a poorly run buiss anyway thats how i see it 🙂 good question though ;)
Bondo,

Seems odd to me though that someone has not perfected and duplicated the model that they found works. I worked for a consolidator for a time and he ran every shop different. The basics on paper were the same for all, but each shop was vastly different as far as demographics, building size, location, equipment, number of techs and a lot of other things. Of course they figured how many techs you could have in a shop your size and how much each tech had to make per month, but it was still like fitting a round peg into a square hole.

I think it would be much easier to find or build a shop a certain size, with room for expansion for a phase two, and them run them all the same. I know most franchises do a demographics study on a new location and they look at drive by traffic, number of people living in your backyard, area growth, average income, etc. etc. I saw none of that and actually took it upon my self to do. I walked into my office one day and our marketing director was going over a bunch of demographic stuff I had on my desk and asked where the hell I was able to get it from. Most came from the local chamber of commerce and local realtors who have a ton of demographic data. The trickest part was personal intel on insurance agents in our area. I got background, education, marital status, hobbies, criminal records, everything. We were even able to get local police logs so we knew who just got in a wreck locally on a daily basis if I wanted it. All was obtained legally and honestly, but at a cost.

I sit and watch a lot of shop owners who are a lot smarter than me sit and struggle and I can not figure them out. If I was a little younger I would definitely give her a go. I think in a ten to twenty year run a guy could do really well.

We used something similar that had a radioactive isotope in it. Worked great but cost to much. Let us know how that thing works. I had a similar problem back when we had a cross flow booth, but the problem went away with a new pressurized positive flow down draft.
i believe the retail price on the afs stuff i use was about 800 a drum as well but i bought it on a blowout from my warehouse and i think i paid 400 for it. stone, i have tried this stuff on the floor and its too delicate. it scratches off to easily. in my old shop i tried the booth coating that you pull off before, on the walls not floor. that was a big mistake. i go back to use that booth once in a while if i get jammed up…its still on the walls and it ain’t comming off. anywhere its on too thin and you pick it off in little pieces. that stuff is expensive and extremely labor intensive to remove compared to the wash off kind. the white booth paper is the best thing for floors. rips right up, roll some new stuff down, tape the seams and your done…..brand new white floor!! i have also tried the stuff from evercoat on the walls. i really like it you just cant tough the walls because i leaves them slimy. it leaves a tacky film that catches dust, bugs and anything else. i have noticed a difference in how clean my jobs come out when i use it. that stuff rinses away as well. i just have to remember not to put it on the door! :lol1
Jim, do you remember the name of the kind you can pull off? Did you try and remove it with a pressure washer? I actually need something that is more durable than average, that will not come off if it got left out in a rain storm.

Jimmo, All you need is a sand blaster , an old electric oven, and a powder coating gun and some powder. You just have to get the metal nice and clean, hang it up and attach the electrode and dust it with the powder coat gun. Then you careful hang the part in the preheated oven for fifteen minutes, remove and let it cool. Of coure bigger parts will require a bigger oven, which you can build if you want to go thru that expense. You can buy powder coat guns and everything you need at harbor freight or on ebay. Good luck. It is a lot of fun. Used oven, small sandblast cabinet and gun and everything is la little more than a couple of hundred dollars. Don’t use the wifes oven!

Not if we don’t let them. We can still vote them out and I would start with a letter to each of your representatives telling them how you feel. If you don’t like their answer vote for someone who will listen. Get your friends to do the same and give his competition some money, even if it is only $10.

Awhile back I read an article that showed how the employees at GM could take just $10 per pay day and buy stock, and in five years they could have controlling interest in GM. Then they could give themselves raises, fire the boss they don’t like etc. etc. You can do the same thing here. Get your friends to come out to these meeting that your representives hold and see and hear what is going on. This is not a bunch of crazies sent out by Rush Limbaugh. It is mostly older folks and people from all walks of life and all different idealogical back grounds. They are just fed up. If your party has changed its views and you don’t agree with them anymore, change parties. I personally am a Libertarian, but generally agree with the republicans. As of late there are a lot of them I frankly don’t give a damn for. these guys wanted change, lets give them some.

I am going to say this is a little different. This is not your hone and internet being tapped because you have terrorist connections. This is baiting you with a something for nothing offer in order to get you to blindly give them access to your computer. Just like congress and the senate passing a bill, when it comes to these internet agreements very few of us read them. I have begun printing them off and reading them and very seldom click on the accept button anymore. This is not something Fox news is making up. Read it for yourself. I was watching some SC representative getting heckled at his town hall meeting and he told the people they needed to turn off Glen Beck and nearly got booed off the stage. He then admitted he had only watched Glen about twice and did not like what he saw. I have been watching the whole lot of our congressmen and senators for a long time and I don’t like what I am seeing either. The whole lot of them need to go get a job and be replaced by someone who will do the will of the people.
