They sure did i was unreal i thought they was worried about another co. getting there hands on it .But it was because of the green toner.A sw rep told me it is the only paint to be patend. The “flake” is cut like a pyramid with 9 sides all the others have 6.

In 1996 a guy just bought a mustang painted mystic wrecked the car the next day.It toke 2 weeks to get the paint after they came down t verifiy it was a mystic mustang. When they came down finally with the the car had to be in the booth ready to spray, had a basf rep,a ford rep and some other guy who would not let the paint out of his sight.they mixed it put it in my gun, went in the booth with me watched me spray the car ‘and cleaned it out and out and took everything liquid that touched that paint , even the thinner used to clean my gun. I was like what is the deal are yall that worried about another paint co. getting that paint. that is when he told me about the green toner.I don’t think they are that strict anymore.I do like the mystic more than any other color shifting paint out there.

What happens with working alum. with tools you used to work steel is that the steel dust gets into the alum. and causes a caustic reaction it will eventually corrode the alum and cause paint blissters. Found out the hard way ford had a bad problem with it on mustangs and expeditions was working at a dealership. The steel dust was settling on the hoods and decklids and they had to pay me lots of moneyto fix them. Made them buy me new da’s just to work on them. For the little grinding you do just make sure to clean the tools good before you start, and get it in primer asap. You should be fine.

I have messed with it a lot. Mostly on mustangs used mystic from basf. From what i understand mystic shifts 9 colors, the rest only 6.The mystic was only used on 1996 and 2005 or 6 mustangs.I went nuts just to get the paint in 1996 the green toner is the same toner used in the $100 bills. Look on the back of one and it should change colors. But it looks nice when it is done right.

I used dupont for 7 years.Like all paint lines it has good and bad points. My biggest problem was that thereis no variant deck the computer picks your var. based on the vin.. I ended up spraying out every color i painted for 2 years and built my own library, it was a ford dealer so it was mostly ford colors i had,it workedout great after that and pretty much learned all the tricks. You have to use the value shade sealer or you will reliaze how thin the paint is.
