Sorry, I was out in the garage all day getting some more suspension parts painted (my local paint supply store mixed my exterior colour as a single stage instead of B/C so free paint for me). [img]http://www.calgaryvolvoclub.com/gallery/d/19259-2/HPIM1553.JPG[/img]There are two places (one I found thanks to this forum) that sell paint locally. I’ve been dealing with my paint store for several year and get excellent service…they are a little short on product information etc, but they do sell to the general public, which I understand is not the same everywhere. That being said, I do have a fresh air system and take all the usual safety precautions.

Thanks Bondo, I’m almost ready to shoot my Volvo 242 project. I still have some detailing to do, but I’m doing a complete colour change and I’m hoping to get that done next week.

That’s great – I like the little tips and stuff on the way in. I’m just about to do the engine bay on my car and will be getting some sealer for sure! It’s very helpful for those of us that don’t do this on a day to day basis to have a look at the pros doing the job.

Is that a Fat Man IFS? I’m looking at them for my next big project. Pics are great – tell us more.

Here’s a paper to read about polyurethane foam filling of sheet metal structures – the increases in strength are impressive. Filling to the right density may be difficult to do at home.

Given I work in my garage, I’m looking for suggestions/tips. What would you guys recommend?

Looks good…can’t imagine useing gasoline instead of W&G – my garage would blow up when the furnace kicks in!

I bought his other gun for $290 with no reserve. He started this one out lower to get a few bidders. So I’d guess that his reserve is around that mark.

    Hey Jayson,

Where the heck is Offshore Autobody Supply (damn – just looked them up, I live about 6 – 8 blocks away…damit)? I’ve been going to Silver and Wayne always cuts me a good deal. Always looking for other options/products. I’ve got an 8″ polisher, but won’t be doing the entire car, just the hood and front fenders – the rest has a thin coat of white over the original paint.

So you’re at Kustom – heard good things about you guys.

I picked up a Dynabrade DA – not doing any sanding tonight, but when I tested it, it was so much smoother than what I’ve been using. No fast moving parts to whack fingers either. Who’s got a Dynabrade (non vac, 6″, 3/16 orbit, PSA) – thoughts?

Not trying to be a knob, but last I checked $435 is more expensive than $280. That’s an Iwata LPH 400 for very little. This gun has been listed twice with no bidders. Your call.

OK – I tossed in a bid on the guys other gun. The LVX arrived at my door this AM and aside from the fact that he doesn’t know how to clean a gun, I can believe the claim that it’s only been used on a single car. The reserve is going to be somewhere around $280 and I won’t bid again (just tossed in a low ball bid to see where his reserve was).

You work from the highs to the lows. Keep a squirt bottle of water to chase the highs down. It’s pretty cool to work with the metal – not against it (it almost always wins). I’ve successfully shrunk 18ga with my disk without issue. It’s easier for someone starting out to use this technique than playing with a torch IMHO. I’ve always found a great deal of satisfaction in working out a high or removing oil can from a panel with just my disk, some water and time.

I’ve had good success with both a shrinking disk and a small oxy torch that I’ve got. The disk is almost addictive it works so well.

I can’t say which gun would be best – I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and am waiting for my Iwata LPH-400 LVX to show up. I did get it on e-bay and for about 1/2 what they retail for, so good deals are there to be found.
