they arent terrible primer guns. nice low overspray. slow if you are doing big stuff. my jobber gave me mine a few years ago, just had to buy a box of nozzels for 18 bucks. so if you can get the stuff for about the price of a set of pps cups then go for it
May 18, 2013 at 6:24 am #43194So you guys save it to reuse, but never reuse it because the boxes you store them in get full and then you toss them ? why not save a step and get rid of them right away
May 10, 2013 at 10:01 pm #43150
Makes you wonder how manufacturers ever got cars out of the factory 25 years ago. Surely there must be some other factor affecting the finish?
surely there are, but in 2013 there is no reason to use a 1k lacquer clear on a car unless you are doing a period correct restoration. you likely piled it on to heavy too fast and when all the solvents finally evaporated and the paint shrunk, it cracked.May 8, 2013 at 5:37 pm #43131
There is no hardener, it’s a 1k clear lacquer and it’s supplied ready to spray.
I had another look over the car last night. The bumpers I did are also showing the problem, but not as obvious and the pattern is more like crazing or spider webs than the lines on the wings.
There is your problem. Lacquer will do that at times. you need to use a good 2k automotive clear

May 7, 2013 at 2:14 am #43098Its a limited use toner in the global line. Looks like it’s avail in waterborne as well. I didnt get a warning about the toner for water. maybe it woul be better to see if you could get it mixed that way
May 4, 2013 at 6:02 am #43080edges of a glass are rounded yet water will still hole on higher than the rim as Scott says. your prep work isnt gonna help fix the problem. gotta work on your application
May 2, 2013 at 5:48 am #43048sounds like you are clearing before the water is fully evaporated from the base
April 25, 2013 at 6:17 am #42935its a better repair to clear the whole bumper. and unless you are an experienced painter, it will be easier and faster than trying to blend the clear as well
April 20, 2013 at 4:36 am #42848I was told that I could use picklex on rust instead of sand blasting. As long as you don’t use an epoxy with acid in it it will hold up fine. I know of people using this method on 1/4 million dollar restos. Are you saying this is not correct???
April 14, 2013 at 8:35 pm #42812What you spelled out in the original post will work for you. Once it is up and running you can see how it performs and make any changes from there. unless you build a dedicated room there is not much else you can do. Hopefully you will be able to do something a little more permanent and professional in the future
April 12, 2013 at 6:11 am #42778Wow. 3 1/2 minutes to spray a roof. damn clear would be dust free by the time you got done with one coat on the whole car
April 12, 2013 at 1:34 am #42771It’s not bad filler. for the price its pretty decent. Sands nice. one of them is really creamy and is tough to build with. the higher build one seems to spread kind of chunky. there is definately better stuff out there. but you could do worse as well
