It is a rear exhaust. They finished the cabin yesterday and over the weekend hopefully the electrican will have it wired so we can fire it up next week. I will try to add pics. next week.

I know what you are going through, I am in the process of installing a new Garmat chinook semi downdraft paint booth this week. They advertise it as a self contained downdraft. Due to my building limitations it was the best option for me as far as fit goes. I will let you know how it performs after I actually get to use it next week (hopefully).

    Jayson,
Thanks for the reply, I am looking at the Garmat Teir 1 (single skin) or the Chinook (insulated). They have the bake cycle with recirculating air.

I switched to Martin Senour Vortex (same as Sherwin’s AWX) and after 6 months of poor results we switched paint lines to Sikkens. Your problems and response from your rep. are way to familiar. After spending way too much money on new guns and drying equipment I came to the conclusion that my shop could just not make this stuff work and made the decision to change paint lines after spraying ms for 21 years. We have been spraying Sikkens Autowave for a year and half now with great results.

Mine is a 21 year old Devilbiss semi downdraft with an old pieced together indirect air make up unit that I installed that needs to be replaced. I am limping it along till I make a decsion but I am leaning towards a new booth.

So sorry for the loss of your father

Yours shop size and work volume sounds like mine. I have 2 bodymen and myself, I handle the office and do all the painting. How I have it set up to handle it so you dont have to many late nights is, I have one of my employees trained to write estimates while I am either gone or painting and one is trained to paint so I can still manage to take a vacation. Both are trained to prime, final sand and buff the vehicle so all I do is mask and paint. There are times it is busy and I have late nights but for the most part it works out pretty good. My Grandpa’s saying was always stay small stay healthy, Good Luck to you

We tried to use Martin Senours HPC 15 (I think that is the number) and we had the same results both with the product and paint rep. I gave up fighting the product, I just couldn’t get it to work in my shop and switched to Sikkens and it has realy worked well for us.
Other than buffing every job, you might want to try a different clear from Sherwin that would dry slower and see if that helps your gloss.

We used martin senour TC 730 clearcoat in a booth with heat but no baking cycle. It was very fast out of dust and we had good results with it. TC 730 is to be used over solvent and not their waterborne paint.

After using Martin Senour for 20 years we switched at the begining of the year to Sikkens autowave and have been very satisfied with the decision. The color matches are better and the system overall is easier to work with. I have a semi downdraft booth that I installed an air make up unit to it prob. 15 years ago. I can maintain 75 degrees when it is 10 below, and I have it designed to recirculate the heated air but no bake cycle. I found the make up unit at a hospital that was being torn down and not being reused.

Sorry, new to the Sikkens line and not up to speed on all the products

I have only been spraying the autoclear HS+LV for only 2 months so I have more questions than opinions, but I do agree that it is finicky and does like to run.
I was told to spray it with my rp with 1.4, but it seemed to run way to easy and shrink up the next day so I changed back to the 1.3 and it seems to be better. Jayson, what air pressure and or gun set up would you recommend
    Thanks

I asked my paint rep. about this clearcoat after I read about it in one of the trade magazines and he said he had heard of it but has not had a chance to use it yet. According to the mag. article it was designed for no bake enviroment.

We just switched to autowave, so far so good. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on it once you have a chance to use it.
Glad to hear you like your new shop.

Sorry, I meant to say do I need to add flex additive to FC 710 when spraying bumpers or is it a pre flexed clearcoat.

I have not sprayed any other waterborne product except Martin Senour’s Votex (same as s.w.)so I cant compare. But one of the things that helped us with the basecoat drying is not to spray such wet coats. For me, I cant get it to cover in 2 coats, I need 3 but it seems to dry quicker with the aid of a blower. My main issue is the lack of gloss with their top clearcoats, but with the help of this board (thanks) I am using FC710 with good results. Good Luck
