Yeah on this ONE I did. I couldnt get my PPG to bring up the code so i called the dudes just down the street and had them bring me a pint (Dupont). It was a hurry up deal. Shhhhh….dont tell anyone. But really we have a PPG mix station and normally use that with the PPG clears. We are buried here and I HAD to turn and burn today. Got the mini cooper out, that van out, and have 2 2013 GMC trucks ready to spray first thing in the morning. Also long boarded the GTO (just the tub that I sprayed slick sand on a day or 2 ago) with 80 grit, and again with 220. Will wetsand that tomorrow sometime too. If my arms will hold out long enough! They are burning right now like crazy! Have one more GMC truck to do when I can. An 09 GMC with quarter and tail gate issues. That will catch me up to where I should have been Monday morning. UGH!

Yeah we use that on many of our small jobs. If its much more than a fender or a quarter/door bland we use a bit slower 2042 clear. Overalls get 2021 clear.

Ok I got ya. Take a look at this from PPG. At the bottom I was surprised to see what they think is the best of the Sata to use for this quick clear. Also look at the pressures they recommend.

At 3″ wouldnt you be moving very very fast? Or do you drop material feed a little? Maybe the drop in air pressure to 25 doesnt hose it on as much? I usually run full fan and full material.
We dont get many German/Japanese cars (ours all come from the Chevy dealership the owner of the shop works at). But the Mini (owned by BMW/German)I just did had some pretty good peel to it.

Only when im trying to get the peel. If im trying to spray flat, im more like 4-5 inches away and 31 psi. Havent really had much chance to try to spray flat with the Sagola yet. Been all collision work so far (cep those inner fenders). Im hoping to spray the GTO friday or Monday.

Little more Sagola work. This is at about 8″ from the panel and 29 psi. Gives just about the right peel there. Wansnt quite right to match the factory peel, but passable. This is Chromabase and PPG (fast) 3000 clear.

Haha! I guess I had that one coming to me! I actually used it to try to match the peel on the Chrysler today. Need more practice for that! Tomorrow I will be doing both 2013 trucks.

I love my digi when it works. I dont like to have the gun any longer than it already is. Just a personal preferance.

Im hoping by Friday or Monday I will be done with the GTO and get to spray that one. I should learn a lot by doing an overall of that size. And being black may make it even easier to see whats going on. Unfortuantely I dont know that I will be spraying it with. I was going to try to do it in single stage, but these fellers are kind of odd sometimes, so they may just want it base/clear.

I have had quite a bit of trouble with my 3000. It will work or not work, and at times show 7 psi sitting in the rack. I replaced the battery twice and still did it. At the moment, it works though!

    SAGOLA! 👿

Man have you seen the 2013 Chevys? I am doing 2 of the 4 door trucks in black right now and im not real sure how I will get that much peel. I used to use my Sata 3000 HVLP base gun to get the peel dead on, but I think it will even spray clear too nice.

    January 30, 2013 at 5:28 am #40827

Thats very possible. But it was a hurry up job and pretty cold. With that small of parts, it was cleared before I really even had time to make any adjustments. Id really like to do an overall with it to see how it performs after tweaks. Not making excuses, but it was hardly a fair shot. Rest assured, if it sucks, you will know because it will be for sale and I will be super pissed! I sprayed a little corner on a Mini Cooper today, it was a little better than last time, but I had to match factory peel and didnt get to go for a smooth spray. And since you like pics, this should fit somewhere between buffed and corn cob.
