I worked with a guy that used an Iwata LPH 400 HVLP and sprayed clear with it. Also some of the best finish with clear I have seen in person. Never meade any sense to me. Thats a base gun all day! And to boot, it looked like a 25 year old primer gun. Super shitty looking and 50 different colors all over it, and the bottom of the cup cracked so he had masking tape wrapped around it. Sprays damn near peel free…..at least for him it does. I never used it.
January 29, 2013 at 4:25 pm #40804I use a Sata 3000 HVLP for base and sealer. I bought a used Finishline gun yesterday for $20. Put some Landau black interior paint in it. That works great for a guide coat gun. That paint will be left in the gun at all times.
January 29, 2013 at 9:29 am #40801
So I hear the Sagola is a mighty spray gun that can deliver a finish that rivals or beats that of a SATA. however I have seen 2 “off the gun” finishes from the mighty Sagola. One was clearly sanded and buffed already and one looks like corn on the cob. Does anyone have photos of their Sagola off the gun finish they wish to post. Heck, While we are at it, lets see some SATA off the gun finishes as well.

Thats pretty shitty to pull a pic from another guys site without concent, call him a liar, and bash his product. Not cool bro. Used to have a little respect for you.
January 28, 2013 at 8:11 am #40754Ive never used kk, just the KBC I believe. I do have some siver fine metalflake I could use that was leftover from another job, and I do have a DBU mix station. I dont believe there is any intercoat in there though. Im sure I could mix it with regular clear well enough for a sprayout though.
And there is no way I would do anything until there was a firm yes on the price. I also dont even start a job until 50% is paid in advance (on this type of work).
January 28, 2013 at 6:32 am #40745
I got an idea. Spray gloss black and gloss candy. Lay a 1/4in fine line inside kandy. Tape off black. Flat clear kandy area then pull out 1/4tape for a nice gloss stripe revealing true kandy while satisfying the flat kandy thing.
Thats not a bad idea!
January 28, 2013 at 6:29 am #40742Yeah I dont stock HOK, so in order to even do a sprayout, I/she would have to get the base color and the kandy and all reducers and hardeners. By then your in so deep you would almost have to do it. Although, I may have some of the reducer and maybe activator left from the last kandy job. It was a kandy green/ reduced black artwork over pearl white. Pearl white is really a pretty color I must say!
I know SS wouldnt even come close to being what shes after. But it may be something that would work. It would sure be a lot cheaper to do. But if this is what she is after, I will certainly do it.
I didnt like the artwork on the last kandy job I did, but the client gets what the client wants. This guy was half black and about 320 pounds, maybe 6’8″ with tattoos all over his neck and face (keep in mind in 5’8″ and 155 at best). Funny because we keep in touch and hes a super super nice guy. Sure wouldnt want to run into him in a dark ally though! Yikes!! What im getting at is a few weeks later he called and wanted me to do a helmet for him. Dude was sinister with that thing on. Couple weeks later he called wanting another one done. Something more simple with some names of friends that had passed and some smoky flames kind of thing.
Attachments:January 28, 2013 at 3:47 am #40732I saw an old Lincoln painted solid kandy matte and it was kinda neat. But for all the effort involved I think there are better options. That’s a lot of money to dump into a matte job. With her matte stripe idea, a flat single stage in something similar would be much easier, much cheaper, and probably turn out much better in the end.
January 28, 2013 at 1:47 am #40730
my nr2000 with 1.4 works great for sealer. If you clean your gun well after each use, there is no reason you cant use your base gun for sealer. thats what I do
That’s what I do now.
January 28, 2013 at 1:45 am #40729
I think somewhere earlier I stated the Sata was the nicest one I have used. I will state why,
I have used a Devilbiss PRI, Iwata LPH-440, Sagola 3300, Sata KLC, Sata 100B RP, Sata 100B RP, 3M Accuspray, and 2 different Sharpes as primer guns. I have mil tested all of these except the KLC and Sharpes. If I take into the texture, amount of primer sprayed in contrast to the dry film thickness and the speed and ease of use. The Sata wins easily. I have no bone in this fight either.
Now this is for the products I spray so it may differ for you. I have to agree with these guys saying something is the best is ok, but you better have something to back it up.
I do agree with you though, the Sagola is a nice primer gun. They make some well built products.
You listed 2 Sata guns. Which one did you find to be the best? I would like to give it a try myself to see the difference.
January 28, 2013 at 1:22 am #40725I don’t use sealer enough to warrant having a dedicated gun for it. In fact I’m not super happy having the 6 guns I do have.
January 27, 2013 at 11:24 pm #40717Nice. Never thought of that way. May be the least steps.
Think if I feathered the base/kandy out just a little further than the stripe the clear would hide it? Or would I need to base/kandy it completely? Kandy isnt cheap, so the less I use the better. But I dont want to be able to see the overspray/blend. Maybe blending agent first?
January 27, 2013 at 11:01 pm #40713I used to be under the same situation. Not the same pressures as flat rate, but the guy simply wouldnt spend any money on decent materials. I used to have to wash my mix cups out to use them again. He would buy the absolute cheapest stuff he could find as well. The problem I had was he was a super nice guy, paid well and on time everytime, and let me do my own stuff there on the side. Also I could work whenever I wanted. Worked completely by myself too. Pretty good set up besides the crap product. I dealt with it for about 3 years and decided to move on. Now I have more pressure and less flexability, but do better work in a better working environment. Its all a trade off. Is there other places you could go in your area?
January 27, 2013 at 10:43 pm #40712Yeah I really do understand that. And I do know how people get fed up with it.
But I posted every primer I have sprayed, how I did it, the order I do it, and the outcome. Also provided pictures (not that you can tell anything from them). But my oppinion should be as valid as anyone elses. And I guess when i said “best primer gun ever” it was because i was just really excited. As you know I plunked down plenty of money on these guns, so i was and am stoked at how well this primer gun sprays. I can see everyone wants it to fail, and if I am to mention them, I will have to go the extra mile to prove it.If I have no chance, I will delete my posts on it, and make another one stating “I use the Sagola and it is fine” and it can mean zero to the OP.
