I was no more wrong than you bud. Its just as much not HVLP as is isn’t conventional.
March 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm #41949I’m curious too. There is one for sale here locally I was looking at. Cheap
March 7, 2013 at 6:46 pm #41947What?!! You mean all these guys have no idea?!! But I suppose it could be considered compliant. But sure….not conventional either.
March 7, 2013 at 8:56 am #41943I pretty much have the basics down. But ive only done overalls in the past and never jacked with collision work, or jacked with anything really. I was a paint by numbers dude. I mixed by the book and sprayed by the book. Also production was never an issue. It was really however much time it takes to be right is what I did. But now time, material cost, and out of the gun finish are much more important. Also need better product education would help me a lot.
March 7, 2013 at 8:08 am #41940Those were cars going back to the dealers lot. Im hoping one or both will still be there in a few weeks so i can stop and have a look at them. Just curious what will become of them. Would help me to know what happens with them after a month or 2.
And just because I tried something different, it doesnt make me an idiot. Look at the pics. Its not like there was an obvious reason that it wouldnt work. Went on clean, layed nice, and got zero pop (so far).
March 7, 2013 at 7:47 am #41938Why do you say that? Because I sprayed at 15 psi and it turned out fine?
March 7, 2013 at 7:04 am #41923
A specific 9 frame offs a year. People prob are catching the buzz of ur paint jobs at 15 psi. Got em lined up :deadhorse
Thanks, your contribution to this is really useful! :clappy
March 7, 2013 at 7:01 am #41922Haha!! Be careful how you word things!! I can dig up several posts about how YOU said it was stupid to even imply that the tech sheed would have any clue about what pressure to spray at. Matter of fact it was in THIS thread. So no, I dont go by the tech sheet on what pressure to spray at. But for grins I did just look, It says 45-50 psi in a conventional gun!! No way man…im not spraying at 50 psi!
But yeah it totally makes sense that laying on 2 heavy coats will dry faster and retian gloss better (and less chance of pop). And I totally plan to bring my pressures back up. I feel I get a more even/uniform coat with more pressure as well.
March 7, 2013 at 6:12 am #41916You told me it wasnt an accepted practice 5 minutes ago??!! I didnt run out and spray 5 more since then is what im getting at. I tried it, came here for some input, you all told me it wouldnt work….it would look like shit….and would solvent pop (even though none of things happened TO ME). Got it. And I agree, I dont think its the way it should be done. But I sprayed something junk with it at 15psi, and it layed out sweet. Looked slick, no pop, so I tried it on a couple more. Maybe I just got lucky? Maybe the 10 minute clear masked things? I dont really know. But I do appriciate the input. You could be saving me from some extreme headaches down the road.
Also I will look into other clears, but just so IM clear, you think the DC2000 wont hold out the gloss like say a 3000 or 2021 will? Im just wanting to understand the why to go along with the what, if that makes any sense.March 7, 2013 at 5:55 am #41913That’s possible, only time will tell. And I don’t spray color at 15 psi, just the clear. I really can’t make clear dry faster than it will?? Not saying 15 psi is right or the way it should be, just something I tried and the clear laid out nice. That’s all I can tell you. Here are 2 of the 3 I did at 15. Not the greatest ever, bit certainly not the worst either. Just trying stuff here fellas, don’t have to beat me up over it.
