There are so many good clears out there now. Seems like everyone is making them now and it used to only be a few to choose from in my area. Nice to have some options. How much is this one for a gallon kit and now does it mix?
Its about 300.00 or so for the clear plus the hardner and activator. It mixes 3-1-1. It seems to go a lot farther then what I was spraying.

I walked into my current job with ase certifications, a killer resume and retired from the Army (20 years in the maintenance field) was offered a job washing cars just cause the normal wash guy was on vacation. Did that for a week, then started off as a helper in the bodyshop. Now three years later I am the paint shop manager. Jobs are out their, but the trick is to get your foot in the door. Even if you were told no, check back in from time to time. If they see that your serious you might get that chance. Don’t be offended if they offer you a job cleaning cars. What an employer really wants to see is your work ethic.
You can’t do it. All that isocyanate laden air has to go outside and that means that you’re taking air from inside the shop and sucking cold air from outside. Only way is to have the booth intakes outside and then heat the air before it goes into the booth. Or, more heaters in the shop. Either way is expensive, I know because I have the same problem here.
I was looking at a couple on the internet last night that advertised recirculate capability something about 80/20 (80 percent of the air is recirculted and 20 percent goes out the stack. I also looked at some of the mobile prep stations where they have carbon filters and 100% of the air recirculates. I got ahold of our Sikkens jobber and I guess they sell them now so they are supposed to have a rep come talk to us. I have heard that alot of shops paint most of the jobs out of these things but I havent seen a whole lot of them in our area,.

If you decide to repair that hood make sure that you are using materials compatable with SMC. I learned the hard way that SMC doesnt repair the same as regular ol fiberglass.

Welcome, you will find alot of knowledge shared here. I learned how to paint back in the 80s and then walked away for almost 20 years and had to learn how to paint all over again. This site got me back up to speed real fast. Still come here almost every day and am still learning.

I have sprayed some of the Matrix clears. I like them alot. I dont know if you have a keystone that you deal with but I know they were pushing us to put a Matrix mixing bank in for awhile. You might try to give them a call and see what they can do for you. Some of the other lines you might want to look at is the Lesonal line ( Sikkens lower line) I have sprayed quite a bit of it and like it alot. And the Debeer line, both will save you money over some of the higher priced lines without sacrificing much of anything.
WA529q Dark Cocoa ash. Bc/cc with a flattening agent add. in the clear. Gm has 12 codes for that year
I tried a sprayout with the WA 529q and didnt like the color at all. Tried with the vinyl dye formula dont know if that changed it at all but I will try it again with a flat clear on it, see what it looks like. Will a flat clear change side tones much? The color that is on it looks alot like the top color in certain light ( in the shop, with shop lights on it) but when you get it under natural light it gets alot darker.

You mentioned that you had a lot of small bubbles under your last paint job. If your doing this at home make sure you have some sort of water trap when your doing all your primer work. A lot of times moisture in the lines can cause issues like that.

Sometimes we can find gm seconds on full doors through lkq. I have had real decent luck with them.

Pressure feed setups are a different animal than regular gravity feed guns. I could see a 17 in pattern with one. Most of the guys using them are shooting very large equipment and a lot of paint in one setting. But I used one years ago to paint cars.

If this gun is to spray something as a hobby in your garage, it would probably work fine. In that environment you normally have so many other things to worry about and you can get a decent finish that you can cut and buff with a primer gun. But if you are doing this for a living and it is your money maker, I would invest in something that is going to give you predictable results every time. That would be my main concern, I havent had very good luck out of anything that has come from China, the quality control is very hit and miss.

You know your going to miss doing smart repairs in a parking lot , in the middle of a snowstorm. Congrats Andy, I have always been amazed at the sheer production you are able to put out.

Just got back from looking at the Vette, just the one spot peeled on it. He checked the car over to see if any other spots are going to lift and I think that he is going to be alright. I think what the issue was that his basecoat wasnt dry enough. Looked like he had a little to much build in one spot and it was still soft. He is going to build that spot up a little with some clear and then the next set of flames will go right over the top of it.
