I used CC6 for a while but only ever air dried it as we dont have a bake booth but I noticed on cars that came back for other work the repairs I had done previous had died back some.

Evedntually I changed clear for a number of reasons but it was a nice clear to spray as I remember.

    Smooth work as always Rikka.

What products did you use one this one? As I know your currently trying different primers/bases/clears etc..

    Holy crap man!

We’ve got it all on trying to sort jobs indoors nevermind outside in the snow.

Was there damage or just scratch?

Bit cheeky but would you say how much you charged for this?

I hope it works well for you.

I know I would prefer to use the waterbourne over solvent if we were set up a little better.

I use it now and then along with their solvent range too. I like it and get along with it quite well.

Not sprayed gallons of it but the colours I have sprayed have been very good colour match and blendability (better than solvent I would say)

The man to ask would be Andy T on here as he sprayed this stuff for quite a few years I believe and his colour knowledge of the system is vast.

I used the #8 acid etch primer some years ago, the type you tip in the gun, not aerosol type ones.

It was okay, better than aerosol etch primer but nowhere near as good as the DeBeer 2 part etch primer I use now which works out about £25 for a litre of primer and litre of activator. Mixed 1:1 making 2 litres. Making it around £12.50 a litre which I think is cheap for a quality product.

Heard they’re clears are okay for the price but will die back.

Yep, I use a Devilbiss Gti Pro 1.3/1.4 for base with a T1 aircap and its spot on.

Not sure if the aircaps are named different in different countries.
If I remember rightly the t2 is for the fast flow which lays the material down with a ( original) finish lol and the t1 give a nice show room glass finish.if you use them for clear like I do, I’ve never used the t1 for color which is interesting as I use iwata w400 for color wonder how they would compare :lol1
T2 is fast flow for gloss/clears T1 is suited to solvent basecoat. I have tried the T1 for clear and it does not work well.

T110 is the latest aircap for the standard gti for HS clears and glosses which is superb.

This is an interesting topic for me as Im also in the market for a mini/touch up gun.

When I do ‘extra’ work or favour work I get them to buy as much materials as possible. 1) Because they then realise the cost of materials! and 2) Because the final bill doesn’t look so bad.

As has already been said, work out how long its going to take you x per hour or per day and go from there.

I give ball park figure if I am asked for one otherwise I tell them its my labour rate x hours + materials.

    Good input guys, thanks.

I find is abit bizarre for somebody to turn up saying they can prep/paint or strip/fit but turn up with no tools. I hate people using my tools so that would really wind me up.

And as for ‘you break you you bought it’ for the shop tools I think thats out of order. Tools wear out and inevitably break down, surely you cant be expected to replace these things. If you were abusing something and it broke then thats a different matter.

I ask because Im about to top up my tool box and all Im really short of is blocks, a DA and angle grinders because these have always been available as shop tools.

Am I right to think somebody with their own tools and self sufficient is more appealing to employ than somebody without tools?

Its simple.. Get one of these guys to do it for you.

    Lovely job!

What did you use for the red?

    January 5, 2013 at 12:33 am #40149

    Couldn’t agree more.

I use a DeBeer 2 part etching primer over bare metal and this stuff really sticks! Even sanding with 80 grit it takes some getting off.

Where as the 1k aerosol and in the gun etch primers I have used always seem to come away quite easy, sometimes almost still sticky.

Ive often thought about going into mobile smart repair and I think I would do if we lived somewhere warm! The place I work in is a real old building with no heating or insulation, at times its colder inside than outside so I know how you feel. Keep it at Andy, Im sure you wont be long before your back in the warmth of the booth!
