K…When I did my first car I was told it should flatten out rite away…Just talked to my rep and he said that I put it on just like
black ss…And when it drys it will flatten out..Said this process
will take 6-8 hrs, all depending on weather..This what you guys have found?…last coat should be crosschecked?..Or fogged?…
DennisJanuary 20, 2010 at 1:36 am #18791joe..I have an old cross draft booth..About 40 yrs old…What are baffles? And how would that work?
DennisJanuary 19, 2010 at 6:53 pm #18784Am new to the flat paints..Think this is my 3dr…what would happen if I nibbed a small area with 2000-3000 grit and buffed ?..or can this not be done…One thing I do on the decent black jobs that the customer doesnt want to spend the money to clear or color sand, I always tell them that
there car will pick up minimal dust and peel..On the flat Im doing now I told the customer the same..And he seems to be cool about it…Ive always found that communication is sooo important between u and the customer..Dennis

DennisJanuary 15, 2010 at 11:11 pm #18689I do realize this is a high end forum…Most are..I probably shouldnt be on here at all…I knew from the get go I’de be
flamed…I promise I’ll keep my comments to a minimin..And maybe try and pick up some hints from the pros…
Thanks
DennisJanuary 15, 2010 at 9:45 pm #18684Definitely a good idea…was always afraid to over reduce in the past..calls for a 5-1-1..will go up to a 5-2-1..Using transtar
reducer..maybe Ill look around for a better on…any thoughts on a better reducer?…Gun is a nr2000 sata with a 1.3 tip..January 15, 2010 at 8:44 pm #18675Mo..I do well painting low end..And we dont charge extra for masking and sanding..There are body shop here that start at $500-
1000 that are going out of business..Old shops that do custom work
are closing..People dont have the money here..To Joe…There always has been a good market for the low end paints..There are just way too many folks that just dont have the money to pay $500-1000 for there 1991 Toyota..That they just sent
$600 to buy..Sorry you feel that way Joe, but I really feel that I am doing a needed service..Give the industry a bad name?…been doing this for 35 years and I just dont agree..
DennisJanuary 15, 2010 at 8:15 pm #18673have a reputation for low cost paint..and they come out decent..
Low overhead, no debt to speak of..I do all the painting and my
wife does all the masking and sanding..Shops in So Cal, the inland empire, badly hit by this depression were in..down a bit from last year but not much..Seems that folks can always afford $200 for a
paint job…Sending many back home so they can do the prep them selves…Got to bend or you will break…
DennisJanuary 15, 2010 at 6:56 pm #18666Mine is a small shop with very little overhead…A Advertise at
$195 for any car…I can do the ave car with a half gal..With
hardener and reducer that puts my material cost at $40-50..I
do all the painting and my wife does all the sanding and masking..Ill do the small dents and my son does the larger ones and the frame work…Most cars that come in always need extra work to
get them ready for paint…With an insurance job now and then and with my 2 stage jobs, I cant complain…I love what I do and I love the idea of a car coming in today and leaving tomorrow…my customers are not picky…Guys…the bottom line isnt what you get for your work, its how you have done at the end of the year…Ive had a shop here for 35 yrs and have never seen it this bad..Body shops are closing left and right…And I dont want to be one of those..So I do what I can to survive..
DennisJanuary 14, 2010 at 8:07 pm #18625I tried the fc740 and not really happy with it..Went to transtar
7311…I had no idea that fc720 existed …just called Sherman
Williams and was told the fc720 is only $52/gal..hardener another
$19/qt…Kinda hard to beat that price..Seeing the transtar is a bit
pricy for me…$100 plus/gal…
DennisJanuary 14, 2010 at 7:53 pm #18623Not really had any problems…Price is good and if I do light metallics, Ill base coat with a color thats close that I know will cover…
But,what Im looking for is someone that uses or have used the single stage dimension line…I do very low end paint and need
something that I can get in the range of $100/gal…And be half way decent..Dimension is priced right but Am having problems with it..Dennis
January 10, 2010 at 9:37 pm #18540Shop is in Riverside Ca….Due to doing low end paint jobs, I had to find a low end paint..Due to the restrictions in So Cal, we dont have alot of
low end paints that r any good…At present Im using Sherman Williams
Dimention line…For my cc I use sherman Williams base coat and transtar
