I have heard the same rumors. I can’t really verify it…..sort of the same way Matrix got started. You hear so many different stories.
I do know that at one time you could cross nexa/enviro numbers with the pro spray h20. That is untill ppg re-did their numbers so you couldn’t anymore.
That being said, I don’t have a lot of info about the waterbase system. I do know that is is a true water system unlike BASF in that there is no agitation and the use of waterborne binder/converter.
I have been very happy with the solvent system. Their 8500 clear is a very nice clear also. Their color documentation is lacking a bit, but they are working on that and have already added a lot of different variants in the last year.
February 4, 2014 at 10:12 pm #45845Exactly what ding said. That is a common misconception about the insurance companies. They CANNOT tell you where to take the car. You own the car (or in your name with a bank lien against it) but you are the one paying for the insurance. The car goes where you want it to. All the insurance company can do is try to steer you to who they RECOMMEND. But at the end of the day, that is all it is a recommendation. That recommendation doesn’t always mean that is the best place either.

They run me about $100 a box of the 16000. I’ve tried the dekups, sata, newer norton ones. Still resort back to the 3m. I found the newer norton ones to be much like ding described. I like the sata ones but with doing these restos I am always spaying at some sort of odd angle while getting every edge and up underneath the car.
It’s a little pricey but the 3m still is the best option for me. The dekups aren’t bad though.
December 15, 2013 at 9:40 pm #45677I agree with jay. There is a difference between giving solid technical advice on a particular product and saying something like “X product is hands down the best out there” and then giving false advice about a competing product to make the prefered one look better.
That is just dumb and nothing more than a sales pitch. Problems can be found in all systems, some more than others.
December 3, 2013 at 2:51 am #45613What about cool down time after bake? Surely after the 15 minutes you aren’t going in there and clearing while the panels are still 100+? Or is that figured into the 15 minute bake cycle??
With my old ass downdraft temps are still in 110 range after the bake cycle shuts off.
From the outside looking in (because I don’t use water), I don’t see the benefit of Cromax over say Akzo or PPG from what has been explained in this thread. :teach

Pro-Spray solvent.
December 1, 2013 at 12:50 am #45588There is color on top of fenders, just hard to see the way I taped it. I only blended the very top of the fenders since the hood was replaced with a new OE. I back taped under the fender jamb so there is no tape line, so the base wasn’t really that close to the tape. Up toward the A pillar you can see color at the edge of the fender. I was able to spray just the center of the bumper and blend the color out so I didn’t have to blend the front of the fenders.
November 30, 2013 at 5:21 pm #45581Did this VW Touareg collision job about a month ago. Was a pretty easy job. Replace hood, grille, bumper grille, right headlight and radiator support. Repaired the bumper.

This water stuff…I don’t have a bone in the fight as I don’t use it and probably won’t ever use it unless it is mandated here. When companies start investing R&D into low voc solvent, makes me think the water isn’t necessarily the future for all of us.
Speed of basecoat isn’t the only thing that makes a system efficient.
November 28, 2013 at 5:59 am #45542I may have solved it on my end by changing my DNS servers. Seems to be working fine now.
November 28, 2013 at 5:42 am #45541First noticed last night. Thought it was just down buy still doing it. I.E says it can’t display the webpage. Chrome says it cannot connect.
Thanks ding. :p
November 28, 2013 at 4:43 am #45537For some reason I cant access the site now on my home connection. Even tried on my phone through WiFi and no dice. Turn WiFi off on my phone and use verizon connection and works fine. Connection at my shop is fine.
