Actually just had this happen to my 5000. Looks like seal went and solvent got in it. Never had this happen to my 2 digital 4000rps and they have been thru the gun washer many of times.

What size is the micro and small flake? I bought some deep purple flake it’s 0.008. I tried it today with my waterbase clear binder. Seemed to work but I think I needed to add more flake.

Yeah my computer gets updates every night. I haven’t since a vehicle yet that matched the prime. But they might have updated the prime since I last sprayed it. Or different trucks from different assembly lines.

I work at a gm dealership. I spray ppg envirobase. Something prime was way out. I have a about 5 cards that I have tinted. Seen the other day that there is a slow lighter special. I believe it’s a new color from 2014.

Its possible that round/flat control broke. I heard that dry up eventually and can break.

Well I know a lot of it is just sales talk. Unfortunately i don’t think i can convince my boss to switch to anything else. He used to spray ppg for 20 years. So i’m just hoping for a much better product than the 700. I want something that actually cure threw. The 700 is always gummy. My paint my saddlebags in the spring and almost caught my nail in the clear when i was cleaning them. Not impressed. So we will see i guess.

Just figured i would add some info on my results with envirobase. I double strain my base. I mix in a quart can and then strain it with 125 micron into the pps cups. Then i gets strained with the pps cup. Works well for getting rid of the chunks. As far as the clears i have been having similar issues with the 700. I do the 2-coat application with some medium reducer works well and bake it as soon as your done. I used to wait 10 – 15 minutes had lots of die back issues. Now i clear, get out hit the bake. My booth has a 3 minute purge cycle before it bakes. Ppg just released a new clear ec-530 suppose to replace the 700. Hoprefully going to get my hands on it next week. The jobbers i have talked to said its suppose to be as good as or better than sikkens superior 250. hope this helps.

I have talked to my boss about it. He used to be our painter for 20 years. He said when they come around they make it seem like our standards are to high and we expecting to much from there paint system. I’m happy with base, i believe the clears suck. We used to get better clear results out of our old cross draft. Spraying d893 and d894. I have dc2002 clear with my car for almost 5 years and haven’t polished it since right after i got it paint. Still looks good.

No I haven’t but i went to a ppg training course with a guy who used to spray sikkens and only said good things about it.

So then do you use the eh392 hardener for sealer? We have established that the clears are crappie compared to what they used to be. My boss has a 71 Cheverly that was painted 7 years ago with D894 and that looks better than his hood that he changed a year ago with ec750. Ec750 just scratches easier by the D894. Are you spraying the waterbase as well?

Well i think i might have been putting my sealer on to heavy and not enough flash time. Last couple of jobs look awesome so far. Left my bake set at 165, which only gives me a metal temp of 130. It can’t get hot enough. I did 40min instead of 45. I won’t really know cause most of the vehicles are gone in a couple of days. I sprayed the sealer with med thinner and clear with medium hardener and slow thinner so it flows nice. 🙂

Well illy go back to using fast reducer. I used to before then keep going to medium then to slow. It definitely flowed nicer. But that makes since that it might not evaporate in time. What about sealer reducer. I usually use medium and my booth temp is 80 most of the time.

    June 11, 2014 at 8:39 am #46788

I’m using usually medium harder except fo hotter days and bigger jobs then I switch to slow. I’m using slow reducer for some extra flow. I bake it for 45 mins at 165 which gives me about 50 celius metal temperature. It takes 15 to 20 to get to that temp. It’s a semi downdraft booth. Unfortunately I’m in Canada where we have voc regulations so the only ppg clears I can use is ec700&750 and the dc4010. I’m also spraying envirobase.
