We have had a few cars soda blasted.. First is makes a huge mess, you will have soda come out of every little nook and cranny for years after the car is done.. Second you really have to clean the car good with soap and water to get it all off.. If you leave any residue behind your paint will NOT stick. I would rather have it media blasted less mess and dont have to worry about washing the surface.. I am sure it has its place but we will never do it again!

They wont even sell you K36 around here anymore… They had way to many problems with shrinkage.

Dont know how you could use K36, it shrinks like crazy.. Even PPG will tell you that!

I find the German cars fairly easy to work on.. Once you have done a few they are cake.. I guess we really dont find any make/model all that hard to work with..

Yeah we have been having issues with color match on most of the German stuff. Which is kinda funny.. Most of the domestic cars have been fine.. They are close to the color chips but not always perfect which can make picking a match fun.. We just did an 08 Passat LA7T that had 7 variants and 36 field formulas! That was a fun one.. Some of the colors that covered really well in the Diamont line dont cover for crap with the new stuff. But others cover in pretty much one coat.. Its just to much hit or miss with this system.. Seems like we really arent using much less than solvent and it is more costly. After looking at numbers over the last 6 months it is has cost me about 21% more using the new system vs. the old.. I did think about switching back to Diamont, but we have already made the upgrades for water so we are going to stick with it. More than likely wont be BASF.. I did attend the Sikkens training about a year ago and really think I might switch back depending on final numbers. Plus they are about 2 miles down the road from us. But I want to look at a few others before I decide..

Yeah I was a Sikkens customer for almost 10 years before I switched to BASF.. BASF is about 15% less right now with my discount than autowave.. I would use the HS clear if I switched back, that is what we were using.

    Nice shop! Have anymore pictures!?

    June 3, 2009 at 5:11 am #14603

Having color issues with rm. The only reason I dont like Sikkens is the undercoats and cost.. And they want me to spend 20k upgrading things I really dont think I need..

I have used ALSA products in the past with varied results.. I always thought it never really looked like real chrome, more like brushed aluminum.. You will have to keep us posted on your results.. Thanks!

Dont feel bad Bondo we shoot coyotes all the time and do nothing but bury them.. They are a huge problem in this area.. You could shoot 500-600 and not make a dent!
