so if i needed to paint the full door and wing how much paint should i get to be safe? i have a litre of lechler speedy 2k thinners here at the house, will this be ok for the basecoat or will it be too fast? should i go for a normal speed thinner?
October 15, 2012 at 4:19 am #38627it will be this shape passat wagon in this colour:

at most, the front wing/fender and the drivers door will need complete paint. the wing will come like this:
so i’ll prime that in grey, the door has some deep scratches half way back so they will be sanded back flat and primed if necessary.
i’ll get pics up of the damage tomorrow. i don’t know what basecoat the shop sells until i get there. i’ve only ever used waterbase before.
October 1, 2012 at 7:37 pm #38444The guy i was working with recently changed from sata 3000s with 1.3 tips to 1.2s using debeer waterbase. he was having trouble with a ford galaxy silver one day then tried it with the 1.2 and hasn’t looked back since.

July 20, 2012 at 12:54 pm #37668cheers guys, well i just realised that the system tells you if it’s a normal 3 stage pearl so tells you about the 2 coats. this is just a standard colour with pearl tinters so no problem spraying. painted with a devilbiss sri.
July 19, 2012 at 11:59 pm #37660i just went for the standard colour, 50ml done it, 2 coats and a drop coat, then gave it 3 coats of clear to give me some room to sand out any dust marks.
first attempt at mixing and spraying my own paint:

i really need to build a spray booth! the dust is a killer haha! the shed is to big to wet everything lo
July 6, 2012 at 8:57 pm #37601well i’m finished in the garage i was in but i would ideally use that paint system again at some point. it was a Debeer waterbase system and was using roberlo clear among others.

i’m in the uk?! nearly finished a vrq level 3 in body repair.
Whats a VRQ? when i was training they use to call it an NVQ, although it didnt really mean anything, putting hours in as an apprentice at a Bodyshop was where I really learnt my trade, the one day at week at college doing the NVQ level 3, was just a joke really and was just seen as a day off and a way to check out girls!
well it’s all college based, 3 days a week in college. the college has it’s own workshop really and we work on the cars there. i was in a garage all last summer but couldn’t get an apprenticeship in ireland cos things are bad over there so came to college here.
