I forgot about this or didnt get the email notification.

After watching the video’s and tutorials I can see I didn’t go at it the right way.

As the parts are all going to be covered up by the side skirts I’m not to concerened about how it looks. I’d like to do a full respray so if it last till then thats good enough.

Your right in thinking I used tins.

If I started treating all the rust I’d end up re-painting all the doors, the boot lid is starting to go, rear quarter has a dirty patch on it, there’s sratches on the roof. I’m making this car sound bad i think  She’s been sitting up parked for 7 months now in typical irish weather and uncovered, quite certain most of the rust wasn’t there when I got the car.

Here’s the latest progress

The wing to the right of the image wasn’t painted. They guy who painted it said it was a close match. All has to to be sanded down with 2000grit (forget what he caleld it) and buffed up. There’s a slight difference between the painted panels and the 1 wing but you hardly wouldn’t notice it.

I’ve been sanding a good bit of surface rusted area’s in/around and inder the engine bay here and there. Found another hole in the arch, cut it out, made a plate and brother welded it in, needs some more seam sealer and gonna put on stone chip. Appart from that I want to prime and paint the slightly rusted area’s tomorrow, plate up a nice big hole on the drivers side on the floor near pedals (there’s a pad there that looks like a jacking point but isn’t, those who know the car will know it) remove the pad on the other side before it cause problems, route all the wiring, connect cooling system up again, bleed it and the brakes and then all panels and grills and drive it 😀

Dad just wiped the dust of an old compressor we have here, it apparently used to blow fuses. The thing is still working anyway. I’ll take a pic of it and the guns later on.

As for a list:

Compressor (what HP motor, tank size?)
Paint Gun (Any recommendations?)
Primer Gun (Any recommendations?)
Rotary polisher & pads (this canl be used also for detailing a car or is that different gear?)
Pressure regulator (or is it called a reducer?)

What else should be on the list?

Hows this for spec of a compressor:

And a little bit more go with the M42 over the M40 engine. I think you got the M42 in the states?

I’d love a set of BBS RS’ :silly: They are silly money, more than I paid for the car.

I’ve lots of question to post up :cheer: will update the thread with progress.

Been removing surface rust from the engine bay. Therre’s a few spots on the cill. A small hole in the engine bay and by the drivers foot will need a patch also.

Gotta chase down the guy for painting today, hopefully get that done this week and start driving her 😀

I’ve put forward some of what was said above in trying to convince my brother to change his mind. All he keeps saying is did you see this guys car?? 😛

Where would I start with a compressor, what sort of spec should I be after? What about 2nd hand, anything to look out for?

Dad got his old spray guns back this evening, not sure what they are like. Don’t look like they were used for a long time…

I was pretty sure HVLP was the type of gun, but he’s convinced it wasn’t…

I asked him what he was talking about and it’s a Apollo Spraymate And if he were to go with something like it this Apollo Pro-spray 1500 would be what he’s after.

The air gets heated in these from passing through the turbine, not the paint as I said in me previous post.

What do you think? I still think a compressor has more use than this thou….
