yeah im having a learning curve with this new spray room-i finished (loose term-needs more light) last week and solvent pop is an issue for me- plus base is giving me some fits-its 98 degrees in my booth right now- ill be painting in am from now on. I have this bad habit of always killing the clear for zero peel-even if i set my mind to not do it at the start of a panel_i see the peel on a med wet coat happining and w/o thinking a med wet coat goes to a very wet coat. compounding this is the base- i think causing some of the problems-to compensate for wet wicked hot conditions im burying multiple slow reduced coats of base under my clear and it is popping. Gotta slow down. Used to much more mild climate like yours.
June 14, 2015 at 1:41 am #48841NO-as BASF is real proud of their new stuff-in a dealership or big shop like yours the IC has no choice but to pay but completes for individuals is a different story. I am a Basf fiend since my lacker days in high school. To me Basf is the best paint company in the world and if i was a full service collision shop ownner it would be my only choice. I dont have a down draft nor a make up/cure cycleand low voc products need the goodies your shop has. My last gallon of real diamont was DC92.:-)
June 14, 2015 at 1:34 am #48840you guys are worse than us for air quality i think, right? you gotta use only low voc products if im not mistaken? This clear by the case of setups is 125-135 a set up i think if you buy 6. 175 a setup if bythe gallon. MY area is real slack to date and we use what we want. I like VHS stuff on good work but not everone cares to spray w/o the solvent nor buy the best guns like we do. The satas make it effortless too me.
June 14, 2015 at 1:26 am #48838No-its your basic HS cheapie clear for air dry repair and hobby folk. Alot and I do mean alot of repair shops hang a diamont or glasurit sign and then pound this on every thing that comes in the door, My homey at finishmaster claims this clear and the 4000( speed Version) is 98 percent of what they sell. I use it for cut in to save some money and it performs well on completes-you bout cant run it. Dies Back a good bit-im spraying it now w/o reducer so pop and die back aint too bad but it does happen.
June 14, 2015 at 1:13 am #48836sent you like 6 pics-dont look to hard at my booth it surely dont have any fans or grates in the floor-lol but she moves some air and is paid for.lol I actually have 2 homemade cross drafts-1 main shop is heated/ air conditioned but i found i neded a second smaller booth for jammin, bikes and cars. Still learning to paint in 95 degrees down here and found retarder is my friend.
June 13, 2015 at 10:47 pm #48834Hey CDYKSTRA-just a pic if it works to show my 4000 hvlp used for clear with fan narrowed a bit to make it spray like an rp
Not sure how to post pics here so if you have advice on how would love to hear it.https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/14dedf9288a0aa41
June 12, 2015 at 7:25 am #48832good deal-youll like it-dial your fan in a little more than usual to get speed out of it on a bigger job-not alot but as much as youcan handle. thats the trick forthe 4000 hvlp with clear-folks think hvlp is slow but close and fast with narrowed fan can be faster than rp and it atomizes twice as good i have gotten finishes out of the 4000 hvlp you would swear were done by an RP.
June 11, 2015 at 11:04 pm #48828Thats my position as well-close and fast and i just like the sata for clear but a close second for me is tekna with te20 I get good finishes with either the Satas just seem easier for large areas . For base i like both but have seemed to gravitate to the tekna for the past 3 years-It seems to suit me but i think thats more because the 4000 hvlp didnt over the top suit me for base, and now im comfortable with em (tekna’s) so It will take a gun i can get excited about to really change. The 5000 hvlp might do it.
June 11, 2015 at 10:43 pm #48827have both but 90 percent of the time i have the copper in my hand with 1.4/hv30 and the prolite has 1.3 and te20. i like both and the outcome seems so similar its usually about material savings as the hvlp saves a bunch. Remember I do allovers not repair so blend for me is rarity. I start with a clean slate and only blend if i cock it up myself or am fixing a friend or family car. I keep plenty of wet bed clear so that tells you i aint perfect by no means. Wish I could spray as much as you guys cuz i love it but that aint inthe cards for me. What are your impressions of the 5000 hvlp-replacing the nr2000? im getting droolly thinking of getting one.
June 11, 2015 at 7:46 pm #48824Do you have the HV30 hvlp air cap? The te20 rocks but the surprise for me was how well the hvlp actually worked. Not a good clear setup but for problem colors you might be surprised-Id mail you mine but I need it. LOL
June 11, 2015 at 7:38 pm #48823Where is the classified part of the site
? i looked for awhile last night and did not see any? Ive got some choice stuff im thinking of parting with. My 3000 digital rp 1.3 is freakin brand new and i know people still want these. I have a 4000 rp 1.3 and 1.4 and a 4000 hvlp. Think anyone might want em ?
I kinda want to be done with the 4000 era now that I got the new one and am liking it so. Problem with me is i get attached and you lose too much dinero from new. I dont paint 3-5 a day like you guys and everyone on ebay thinks all guns are worn out-mine are mint and ripped down after every job so my guns that are 20 years old look like brand new. and have like no hours on em. If i sold a few i might be able to pilfer a 5000 hvlp- any experience with it?June 11, 2015 at 7:30 pm #48822So you aint to craz about the 4000 hvlp either huh-i think its cuz they were trying to make it a better choice for clear and i think they succeeded over all-i like it pretty good for clear-just not in the same league as the 5000rp thats fer sure.
June 11, 2015 at 6:55 pm #48819sorry for the lag on this-Instead of talking about aircaps we should have just said 1.8 bar is ok for 2-3 coats to get the color on for coverage only- but bump that pressure up to 2 bar maybe even 30 psi for your drop(orientaton coat) and it will straiten that fine metallic out. We use the te20 and HVLP cap hv30 and i have zero base issues with either cap. my te10 that came with my second gun is still in its sealed factory plastic box where it will stay more than likely. I actually prefer the hv30 for base it atomizes the crap out of the base at lower psi so you get the best of both worlds. I only said what i said because i know you guys dont get all the goodies with each gun like we do. and wasnt sure if you were up to spending the 100 bucks for the new air cap. Peace
