You might have some bad hardener,it should NOT CLOG YOUR PAPER,it sands super easy and powders right off.
I never cared for hvlp guns,I used an rp when I shot solvent and never had a problem. :kofee
I thought the same thing, because I had a hard time getting the Hardener to mix while I was kneading it, it was really watery, I never had that problem with the evercoat hardeners, I’m gonna try the evercoat hardener, I shouldn’t have a problem since they are both the same chemical right? (Benzoyl Peroxide) I think it is
And O ok I was just wondering, I seen a really good deal on one but it was an hvlp, they seem to cover really well, but sticking to my prolite for now :cheer: and my 4000rp for clear :rock
December 9, 2012 at 3:09 am #39758yeah i gave it another try and it seemed to have less clog which is good. i like it, i like how easy it spreads, ill have to try the regular platinum, and dolphin, and my go to fillers will probably be quantnum and the platinum, but i have an out of topic question, for the SATA users, which gun or model do you guys like better for base RP or HVLP as in blending and coverage etc, i tried searching it so i wouldnt start a whole new topic but couldnt find anything about it.

How is fantastic? And the pro 7?
Not worth using again, fantastic sucked really bad.You have 4-5 people telling you to go with the platinum, trust us that is the product to use and forget the rest ;)
:cheer: ok, I’ll be trying the platinum, tomorrow again , after that the regular. :rock
December 7, 2012 at 5:24 am #39721
If it was plugging your paper and hardly changed color you didn’t put enough hardener in it,the blue hardener will turn it green(sands easy with no clogging of the paper). As far as other fillers I have tried evercoat rage/rage extreme, rage gold, quantum, upol fantastic, monarch gold, usc cromate lite, pro 7,easy sand, all sorts of stuff I can’t even remember. In short I have found nothing that works as nice as platinum in 25 years,my go to combo is platinum with dolphin glaze.
At first that’s what the problem was so I added more to it, but didn’t want to add too much, I do a line across or so depending on how much filler I have, I will give it another try tomorrow, that’s really the only complaint I have, I loved how smoothly it spread and after the clogging it sanded pretty nice. Over all it was a nice product, I’ll have to give the regular platinum a try, I’m just trying to find out which one better suits me, and makes my job easier. I’ll be giving the dolphin glaze a try also. That’s definitely my next product.

December 7, 2012 at 4:27 am #39717Yea, I wasn’t to happy with the ultra but I have no complaints about quantum, I tried the platinum plus today as it was the one i had already and I loved the way it spread, it seemed to mix fairly easy but sort of had a hard time see when it was all mixed as it only slightly changed the color of it, I didn’t see any pin holes which is good, it sanded nicely as well , featheredged easily too, but it was clogging my sand paper which I hate. Not sure if ill buy more plus, but might give the regular platinum a try. Has anyone ever tried the U-Pol filler such as Fantastic or the USC pro 7 I think it is?
December 6, 2012 at 7:46 am #39706
x3 on the platinum. I’ve used the ultra and wasn’t impressed over the platinum. They performed very similar……but the cost difference was about $10. Platinum is cheaper, for me.
The dolphin glaze is a very nice glaze. I’ve been using the 3m platinum plus glaze lately and happy with it. Don’t think you can go wrong with either. Both are nice than evercoat metal glaze.
I’ll be trying dolphin next, I was thinking about the platinum putty or even quantum but the price on quantum is outrageous
December 6, 2012 at 7:45 am #39705I will have to try the regular platinum soon than, it shows that a lot of you guys like it. Is there a big difference or what’s the reason why the platinum is better then the plus?
December 5, 2012 at 6:49 am #39682Yeah I know, I don’t go off of popularity , I read a lot of descriptions and reviews, what’s the difference between platinum plus and platinum?
November 30, 2012 at 3:09 am #39478
O ok, I’ve seen a couple that say they are rollable, but in my mind everything in auto body was sprayed on lol :silly: I’ll have to try that sometime I guess, I just graduated high school last June, and I’m trying to be self employed and learn as I go, and going back to school this semester or next for Autobody .
November 30, 2012 at 3:08 am #39477
Let your primer dry well. I try to plan my days so at the end I prime and it dries overnight. Painting over primer not fully cured will suck up every time . I use a generic 2k economical primer. Under 100 dollars a kit 4:1
yeah i usually always end up spraying the next day after i prime and sand it down, not sure if ive primed and painted the same day yet. i try to not rush jobs as they come back and bite me if i do. i try to get all the scratches out as i can, so i wont have anymore problems, the only way to learn is by messing up, well at least that how ive learned lol

November 29, 2012 at 4:49 am #39459
I’m using ppg ehp waterbased ,and we use the omni primer. It is good for our shop dry fast and build up good, only thing is hard to sand. Price is good ,it’s around 120$ a kit and also u can brush the primer on if u just fixing a small area and don’t want too much overspray.check it out on ppg official website . Hope it help
yeah it does, i use the ppg shopline for basically everything from the primer to clear, the 202 primer is nice and doesnt seem to hard to sand but this is the only primer ive used so far, so thats why im wondering whats out there and peoples opinion. but ive never seen brushed on primer
November 29, 2012 at 4:44 am #39457
Shrinking is operator error unless you use a real talc heavy primer that is junk.
to steal a line from Red Baron “Primer cannot shrink into a scratch that is not there” finish off each substrate in the proper grits and you will be fine.
that is what i thought. i read the data sheets on most of the products i use, and finish with the highest grit allowed, most of the time if not just a couple under but still in the products range. i was just wondering if some other factors caused this as some fillers and primers say on their description “shrink resistant or minimal shrinkage”
November 26, 2012 at 6:39 am #39412
I use the orange cap for almost all my colors, most of the time I use the purple cap is when I picked two fast of a reducer and need to even things out. If you find yourself fighting modeling try some slower reducer and letting your base flash completely between coats. The purple cap does a great job but it is real slow. Sprays completely different than any of the other caps. Once you get used to the iwata you could probably spray everything with one cap, but the others just make it easier.
Chuck
I mostly always shoot with a slow or medium reducer, unless I have a very small repair, but also depends on the weather, I had another post where they gave me a lot of tips and it helped out, bunt still trying to get it down, maybe gonna try a better quality reducer next time and see where that goes, I wouldn’t mind spending the extra money if it’ll make things easier but wouldn’t mind saving it if I can, I will see what happens in the next couple of jobs and see how things turn out and go from there.
November 26, 2012 at 12:07 am #39408I haven’t been able to spray waterborne yet, as I can’t afford it yet or even set up for it so it would be a waste plus people wouldn’t be want to pay the price for it, I’ve been wanting to try PPG DBC but even that is priced high. I’ll have to try it soon and see the difference between Shopline+ and DBC
