I thought you had a tekna ?Thats about the best basecoat gun you will get,one air cap does everything ;)
Yeah, I do and that just mean something coming from Jayson :rock , just wanted to see what people had to say about the iwata for base, since I have to fight with my paint to lay down nice since I use ppg shopline , and I like the iwata since it has a low air consumption since I don’t have a top of the line compressor and I’m self employed. I don’t have any problems with my Tekna but just see if the iwata would make it easier . :cheer: but with the line of paint I’m not sure if it’ll matter
November 24, 2012 at 10:45 am #39388
I’ve got several Lph-400’s and love them all!!! The orange cap does seem like it atomizes metallics a lot better then the standard. My last couple I bought from Keystone, saved a bunch over everywhere else I looked, also if you use pps or another cup system you can order just the gun without a cup and save a little.
the cheapest i found it so far is for around $500 and it comes with the 1000ml cup, and i still use the aluminum cups unfortunetly and the cup liners, ive been looking into switching to a cup system, but not sure if i can afford it yet, ill have to check some prices on the different brands and see which one is the best. the new devilbiss system looks pretty simple but everyone seems to side with the 3M pps system.
November 24, 2012 at 10:38 am #39387
I use a lph 400 everyday at work everyday mainly with the orange cap. I have all three. I tried out the supernova but stayed with the lph cause it does everything I need it to. I use the w400lv4 for clear cause the lph is just painfully slow to me.
Chuck
is there a big difference between the purple and orange? and thats a big reason why im looking at the orange for the metallics, i dont use the best paint out there yet, so getting the color to not blotch is a pain, so hoping that will make it easier.
November 24, 2012 at 1:07 am #39383
I know this my sound funny but don’t take it the wrong way, the gun I got was £250 in English pound, and with the pound so I think it works out round $500 in the USA, when I’ve got an account they do give you trade and discount . What set up you looking to get. And also what gun and set up you got for clear :)
well i know, its a different price in US dollar, but someof the things are cheaper than if to buy them here or other sites, but i dont understand the trade etc. and the lph400 with orange cap is what im looking to maybe getting but i dont think they carry it but found it on another site for aroung $500, and for my clear i use my Sata 4000rp with 1.3
November 24, 2012 at 12:18 am #39380
Hey mate, I use Spraygun direct all the time. It’s a very good site I have just ordered my second gun plus, a d third reg. once you set up an account ull be fine. It will only take bout 5 mins to do plus you can pay by PayPal 🙂 I normally get charged £2.50 postage,
An I get it in with the same wk I order. I’m not sue on the iwata your looking to get. But I use the iwata w400 for base and that’s a great gun
O ok, i was windering because their prices on somethings are really low so wasnt sure if it was safe, or if would be a lot for shipping since im in the USA.
i heard and read alot of good things about all the iwata’s, im looking something for base, and hear the LVX is great
October 26, 2012 at 5:37 am #38803
Sata primer guns are hands down the best. I have used damn near every one of them also.
Yeah, if they are just as good for primer as the other guns are for bc/cc I don’t doubt it, If I went with sata I’d go with the jet 100 primer gun I think which is close to the $400 mark I think :woohoo:
October 26, 2012 at 5:34 am #38802
The primer Len sprayed with the sagola will lay smooth with a roller. The 3m gun is nice. I got mine free with the purchase of a set of caps ($18.00) Talk to your jobber, you may be able to get a good deal as well ;). The only down side of the 3m is that is is extremely slow. if you are priming whole panels it pretty much blows. The Sata primer guns are honestly the best I have used. They work really well for the higher solids primers.
O ok, yeah it layed down smooth, but I would like to try the accuspray but don’t know about it being slow, I’m on the faster side of spraying, but I might give it a try, or just go ahead with one of the other guns, like a Sata, which I doubt i wont like, or will ever let me down, I have a 4000 and I love it.
Forgot to mention that I’m on my own, so no jobber comes to me….. I will try with the manager at the paint store that I go through and see if he can hook me up :cheer:
October 26, 2012 at 1:34 am #38793Thanks for all the help, I’ll look into the accuspray gun, I might also look into the Iwata, sata , and maybe the sagola primer guns. I seen pictures of the sagola results and it layed it down so flat. I like buying tools that eventually make my work a little bit easier. I’m just starting out but I’d rather wait a little longer and spend the money, plus it’ll help me take the extra time to clean it out 😆
Again thanks for the opinions everyone
October 26, 2012 at 1:29 am #38792
I love the 3M accuspray system, but its a slightly larger investment. I used to use a devilbiss starterline gun that held up pretty well, it was around $100.
.
O ok, I was thinking about the starting line, which I used during school last, it worked fine, although it oversprayed more than I liked, a question about the 3M accuspray, are the tips expensive to replace?
August 8, 2012 at 7:45 am #37792
Get a side cabinet for your tool box with a locking door,it will have a shelf and put in some generic gun hooks and you are good to go.I can store all my guns plus spare parts and new paint suits in it for about $125.I got mine from nappa.
I was thinking about doing that as well, I just move them around a lot but I might just get that and lock them up to keep the, safe
August 3, 2012 at 7:28 am #37771
The one I told u is aluminum !trust me take a look there
How would I search for it? I can’t seem to find it
August 2, 2012 at 6:34 am #37760O ok thank you, maybe they are plastic I’m not sure, but I need it, I don’t want something happening to them, because parts are ridiculously expensive :wak
July 7, 2012 at 8:42 am #37604Well I sprayed another silver today, it came out better, increased my distance a bit, lowered the pressure to about 15psi, and did the mist coat at the end, it came out better but a tiny bit blotchy , you could barely see it. It came out really good tho. But then later the day I sprayed a bed, same paint, same technique and it came out more blotchy, so Im not sure what’s going on, maybe the temperature is affecting it. :stoned
July 5, 2012 at 6:34 am #37582
you could also do a few other things. one put a coat of sealer down first, like jay said slower reducer, play with the fan spray wide open isn’t always good. put dbc500 down first then color. make sure your overlaping well enough.
I’ll try all these things, although I have been using slow reducer, I’m going to try and narrow my pattern down some more and drop the pressure, and maybe get some blender as well. I hope to get it down soon, I hate seeing that on my finished work, as I take pride in my work
July 4, 2012 at 7:04 am #37573
sometimes it helps on the cheaper stuff to cut your base 50/50 on the final coat with some colorblender/clear base. Had to do that with dbc alot on their metallics, so I’m sure the lower lines are worse
I will try to get some blender or clear base and try that, if not just keep trying different techniques until I get it I guess, I have a truck to paint in the next couple days so I’ll see what happens.
