Thank you guys…I really do hope to learn some things here as so much has advanced in paint tech in the last 8-10 years.
Things that used to be hard like prism efx, flake, crystal, marblizers and things of that nature are now easier due to better quality (and actually cheaper if you can believe that) products that are out now and much better techniques that the younger guys have developed.
I’m looking at some newer mid priced guns and have read the threads on here for everyone’s opinion and that has helped already….I guess my Binks #7 ain’t the best rig around anymore.j/k:p
As for posting pics..I have to get this shop up and outfitted by the end of Jan. and then get a few tractors and pieces of equip ready to put on my lot for sale or I’m going to be so broke I’ll be eating rocks with no salt….but after that (prob around mid march) I intend to start on a lifted ’97 3 door Z71 that I traded for a month ago and just had the 5.7 vortec top end rebuilt(with some goodies) due to the normal vortec malady of a bad intake gasket. It’s going to be a flaked out bass boat toter on a budget…I am trading for everything other than the paint that goes on this truck(unless someone has some product that they want to swap out for.lol) to show some of the younger guys in my home area that you do not have to finance a truck and then throw a fortune at it to make it sharp if you a willing to do a bit of work and use your head and do a bit of swapping and be creative…I’m going to vid and pic document this thing (including reciepts) from start to finish and will have less money in this thing when completed than a lot of my buddies have wrapped up in just the price of their rims and tires.
It’s U8555 Black and with that for a base, the door is WIDE open.:rock
it would be alot easyer ta just buy a roll of good window tint an just tint em while there out when done right its hard ta beat the films that go on an are made ta do the job
Exactly right….I know what he is shooting for,but the film will still be a million times easier and look a lot better by the time alls said and done I’d bet.

Complete hack job but honestly what do you expect for $750?
Well,I don’t know about you or anyone else,BUT,if I quote you $750.00 to do something, you STILL get the best work I can do for that money….it’s called pride in craftsmanship in my book. There’s no excuse for that type of work for any reason if the guy supposedly has a “pro” shop.No excuse at all.A good hard a$$ whipping might help his skills for the next customer imho.
tx alot for the response, just another newb question, are flakes same as pearls?
tx
“flakes” are normally sold from the .004″-.125″ range…they do the same thing as pearl, refract light.
I’m into high perf. boats and have shot(and getting ready to shoot a Z71) flake in the past…I love it,but a painter with limited experience may find the job to be a royal pain due to the coats of clear to cover, potential edge problems where you have to make sure it lays down or you will be upset during your cut and buff phase,tigerstriping/dark/light flake spots etc etc…Flake is awesome in my eyes, but if you have limited experience, start out with .004 in a color binder/intercoat(reduced build up) and work your way into bigger over time/experience…..make sure to use the right tip size for the size flake you are shooting and if not using an agitator, slosh that sucker around everytime you let off the trigger….some folks use a “flakebuster” to blow the flake onto wet clear…I tried it and was horribly dissapointed in the results and the chaos of flake EVERYWHERE!!! May have just been my inexperience with the tool, but I craigslisted it anyway.:kofee
Just tinting the windows would be a hell of a lot faster and cheaper. I see no advantage to spraying the windows. Spraying a black kandy over glass would also show every flaw in your spray technique.
Also I would be worried about visibility.
+ 1
There was a spray window tint out back in the mid 80’s(don’t recall the company that sold it) and a dude brought a converted Greyhound bus to me with a gallon of this crap to tint several windows on his bus…NIGHTMARE!!!!! It showed every overlap…I tried it several ways and finally washed it off with thinner and filmed them for him…luckily he was there and saw for himself how crappy the product was.
The upside of the experience was I used it to tint tail lights etc WAY before that was the “in” thing to do.:stoned
