Thanks for the kind words gent’s

I am very happy with the job, turned out very nice great van to drive.
Looking good Nick, I’d love a T5 myself.

How easy was the facelift as I have a mate who’s contemplating it. Just the lamps and external panels or is the front panel different? He’s done a couple of Bolf conversions so this shouldn’t be out of his league.
Andy the front panel is indeed different, but you can make up four small brackets to save changing the front panel

two for the lower headlight mounts, simple just a straight bits of metal bar to bolt the lower fixing on the lights

two for the upper bumper mount again straight forward two L shape brackets

    parts needed

    bonnet
    bumper
    two headlights
    Grill
    two bonnet rubbers

Will also need a spark to rewire the lights, as the multi plugs are the same, but the wire configuration is slightly different, no biggy cost me £40 from the local spark.

They are great little sanders so quiet over air there is only 3 speeds on the 3m
Mirka sanders are great and they are completely variable speed

You can have it super low for sanding narrow edges, bit’s you can never sand successfully with a conventual sander.

i have had the mirka one for about 8 months ( 2nd generation) with a three year warranty

We love it great little sander so smooth and you can turn it down really low for very precise sanding.

The cable did go but i actually blame my guy for that as he wraps the cables round the tool when tidying up, and that always breaks the wire just as it enters the tool when someone does that.

So he doesnt do that anymore lol

ici/nexa do have a really good flex additive that remains flexible

Dunno about over the pond in the late 80’s early 90’s quite a few cars were fitted with soft foam filled lip spoilers.

These were very soft you could pinch them beteween your fingers and they would compress like a regular sponge.

Add the flex additive and amazingly the paint would stay intact and not split or spider web.

lol could you have taken a worse picture, that bush is right in the way.

The quarter lower moulding also looks different to the door, but hard to tell, better images required

CB is correct if you require a good perception of matching colour you must blend.

    Lower moulding and bumper colour’s can be a real p i t a

I dont get it really, the point that is ??

Unless it is a show vehicle or a very high end vehicle

Seems a lot of extra work + Material + Energy + creating a bottle neck

Could be a number of things, doubt if it is to long a flash off

    could be

Excessive film thickness. Insufficient drying time between coats

Drying cycle was started too soon after application.

    Baking temperature too high.

Over the years i have found if there is solvent pop in the booth it is usually down to to much material on the panel and to much heat.

Think about it this way where is solvent pop usually found ? hood, roof, decklid. all the flat panels where the application is much heavier.

Sometimes guys that spray at lower pressures are susceptible to solvent pop as they paint much slower and generally use more material, this most evident when using H.S. products.
Maybe I’m just getting lazy, but if it were me, I’d just buzz the the whole thing really good with 400-500 grit and a red scotch brite pad. It looks to be in pretty good shape. Then spray 2 coats of your favourite 2k single stage and call it a day. I would consider sealer if needed…

I can’t imagine taking that apart, stripping it, priming blocking, then spraying it again. Unless you have unlimited time or want to make a show car out of it…
I agree a good sand down would be good enough for me, i would only strip it down if it had been painted multiple times, with unknown products., though i may sand it down with 240-320 and wet and wet it.

If it is just to be a workhorse and not a show vehicle why give yourself to much aggravation
