I was in a shop just before christmas, i used to work there 22years ago and it still has the same traditional pipework installed from when i worked there. had a few bits added on, but the main ring ring is still there with the drops into the bays i worked in.
this is the pipe work i installed recently in my new shop
I am running an economy operation. As far as paying my painters I put them on commission, the last guy would be making $20 hour if he paints 4 cars a day. I don’t have a problem paying a painter what he is worth, I am just having a problem finding someone who is worth what I am paying.
4 cars a day should be no problem for any painter, four complete’s may be a little harder i will leave them for the experienced under 30yo old guys with loads of energy lol

Leaving parts on should not really affect any painter, mirrors can be a pest if you forget they are there and suddenly your spray gun stops dead and whoops lol, i am sure all painters have had this happen at some point or another.

Once or twice  )
lol i was being diplomatic
and yes i have come to a dead stop on a mirror lets say more than once or twice , not for a long time now though
As far as technique is concerned both of the painters I have tried paint differently. Instead of painting the car from the front fender back they jump around and paint different panels I imagine this does cause some overlap. As far as flash times we are using 15 minutes between coats. Have a painter auditioning today at 1pm, hopefully I will find some talent.
no disrespect ment
but it sounds like you are running an economy operation, and there is nothing wrong with that at all.
I find it very strange that your painters are jumping all over the place when carrying out a complete.
Sounds like inexperienced painters to me.
If you are running an economy shop do you think you are paying enough, would this maybe be why you have painters that cant paint, when it comes to painters and running a shop, this is one area you have to go the extra mile and employee the best painter you can afford, if you have any doubts you should look to the next person.
It is an old saying a good painter can hide a bad panel man’s work but if you have a bad painter he spoils everybody else’s work
i done it that way in the old booth nick
i could get normal temp in the room but i would never say it was baking temp and its a big ass diesel burner too!
from what i understand its panel temp not the room temp ? i get the room to around 70-80 degrees c …
i did think of ducting it through the inlet fan pushing it through the inlet filers but thought they may catch fire lol
any input would be great
Yes it is metal temp that cure’s the material
If you are able to raise room temp to 70-80 celsius
You are at bake temperture
To get metal temp you need to be driving that temp through with a fan, keeping the hot air temp moving over the car will increase the metal temp quicker.
Another way to lift the metal temp is to point your water base blowers at the car when the the temperture is up
Sort acts like junair quad system but to a lesser degree.

Couple of things i/r is quite good, but expensive to run.
You can see your electric meter speed up when you switch those suckers on.When you think about it your space heater is not that different to a booth burner.
I have seen this done before space heater outside the booth and ducted in, and filtered
should also be able to run the space heater on a thermostat.Well worth a thought, industrial ducting is not that expensive, you will have to cut a hole in the booth.
Better if the heat is coming in from the top area, i would say
i have aslo chipped off with hammer
but after a few hundred blows the old wrist get’s blooming sore.
So i found another way that works
Vice grips mole grips not sure what the U.S. chaps will call them lol.
Just set them so they are not too tight on the stand and twist and you will be amazed at how easy the paint comes off.
Not to tigh you really just want to be gripping the paint and not right though to the stand.
Hard to explain but it works
if i get a min i will take some pics
I have been wearing Snap-on’s Daytona’s boots for a long time now
When i initially looked at them, i thought wow they are a bit expensive
But i was desperate for a new boots so i bought a pair
Used nothing but since then, they last me approx 2 years on my third set now.
They are comfy have a steel toe and you do not feel like you are wearing boots.
If they are not tied to tightly on the last couple of eyelets you can easily slip them of and on without undoing the lace’s
Witch is a godsend when painting if you are constantly taking of and putting on your paint suit.

I’m trying to look into whats going on. First off do you log in at the top of a forum page like this or on the home page, there two different login modules (2 different sets of code) so just want to make sure its not specific to one.
Short answer: I come straight to the forum
Long answer: I come to the forum in one of two ways
1) Like now, I hit the link in a reply notification email. This brings me straight to the topic but I am not logged in. My browser (I think) has already filled in my username and password however, so I just check the “remember me” box and hit the log in button. This takes me to the home page from where I navigate my way back to the topic.
2) I have the recent topics page bookmarked
http://www.refinishnetwork.com/forum-2/recent-topics
When I follow that link it brings me to the correct page but as above I have to log in and navigate back from the home page.
Hope that explanation helps to point you in the right direction. Don’t lose any sleep over it though, I can live with it if it’s a tricky fix :cheer:
Ditto same for me
