    Hi and Welcome

    April 28, 2013 at 2:12 pm #42997

I live in Portugal ( i am Dutch tho!!! ) and i just tell the client they have to come back after 8 weeks to have a free wax aplied , if it´s for free here then they will be there 😉
But more important , we give a lifetime garantee (for the time they own the car ) on our work and paintjob and we just tell them that if they don´t come back they don´t have the garantee.

I don´t wax new paint , i wait 8 to 10 weeks before doing that , but we offer some simple detailing too and i use 3M for both paint shop related things and detailing , i like the product and see no need to use 2 systems , the only difference is in the pads i use , in the bodyshop i use the flat 150mm pads and in detailing i use the bigger waffled pads , as the 150mm pads seem to wear out a lot quicker than the bigger waffle pads

Here you can find some more on 1Z , i use 3M only in the bodyshop but the 1Z we use in the detailing bay wich is seperated , i mainly use the Polish – wax ( red tin ) , cleans good , restores old paints , even when they are a bit faded , easy to take of and quite durable , and it´s cheap.
I use it for 35 years now and i am still very happy with it , works perfect for cleaning doorsteps and things that needs to shine after first application but it´s nice for whole cars too , depends on what you want to do , i can recomend you to try it out.

At the moment i use this system http://catalogue.3m.eu/en_eu/eu-aad/Vehicle_Appearance/Colour_Coded_Polishing_System.

Very easy to use and what i like about it is for example , the fast cut compound buffs all the way to a nice gloss , i then finish it with finishing glaze and i´m done buffing , i do black or dark blue/green cars this way and in general it´s swirl free first time!
Then i top it off with a protective wax and that makes one happy client 😉
It´s a very efficient system and it has a nice price attached.

Always logic to adapt to your clients needs/wallets i think , i use the 3M Perfect-It system , wich i finnish off with a Maguiar´s wax , works 99.9% of the time , for hand polishing i use 1Z metalic polish with a Maguiar´s wax for protection , works realy sweet too.
This way i keep the costs low and the final product looks great.
Most of the price is in the hours anyways.

I don´t have any experience with Swixvax so i am looking forward to hear the results!

Hi and welcome , keep up the high spirit , take your time and just do it , that is the only way to get the experience , once you done a couple of cars it becomes natural and you can start to find the pitfalls and progress………there is no end in learning in this trade 😉

If you want to build a temp booth that i would go like 79olds says , i see many people that have one like that and they seem to work good , as long as you have good filters , sufficient airflow and all the seems/doors are air tight it will work , you can even plumb some form of heating in there so you can at least spray at a decent temperature.
like i said , lots of proffesionals use booths like this ……….

In the second or thirth coat of color mix 15% of clear then apply another 1 or 2 coats of clear over the total , take care of decent flash times , like 20 or 30 minutes between coats and there should be no problems.

Nice and tight job ! but i think a door fell off…………..;-)

So you mix a 4:1 clear as a 1:1 , i think that will give you a problem.
