We dry sand wherever possible.
Sometimes I don’t think you can beat a bit of wet sanding for more feel on a complex shape, but on the whole we sand our primer with 500 on the DA, or 400 for dark or solid colours.
Yea i would like to do the same but boss worrys about pig tails etc, so makes us finnish on 800/100 wet. Tbh not big fan off wet sanding
thanks mate
Since you’re from the UK Sach I’d highly recommend Mirka sanders. We’ve had 4 of them at work for 4 years now. They are on the go most of the day and we haven’t had a single failure yet. We also have one of their 2.5mm orbit finish sanders, and one of the mini 77mm units.
I also own a large and small one myself, which again have never given me any trouble.

ROS650CV is the one to go for if you’re only having one, or the DB model if you want it to catch some dust 🙂
If you don’t have a large compressor or simply prefer electric, look at their CEROS sanders. Amazing little tools with much more power than you’d imagine!!
Thanks Andy was look at the ROS650CV was not to sure on it i might speak to the MK Paints rep see what price, so far cheapest i seen is at http://www.restexpress.co.uk/acatalog/Mirka_Air_Orbital_Sanders.html Do you dry sand primer for base? or still 800/1000 wet?
Thanks
I worked at a renault approved nissan main dealer bodyshop and we had to have this on the shelf for renault work, we used what we knew best the sikkens on the other scheme hence it hardly ever got used.
But when I did use it it was fine just like the dupont cromax in my opinion, takes some getting used to swamping it all on in one go if you have come from basecoats that require the base to be put on in stages like the sikkens.
If it is rebadged Dupont cromax/spies permahyd or standox equivelent they have a few issues though, as in drying problems (staying spongy) and if you ever need to puff a bit of base on dryer or lighter anywhere watch the colour as light colours tend to look darker in sunlight although it initially looks lighter or ok in the workshop. we had a libary full of sparyouts sprayed wet and dry, giving different colours some like you wouldnt believe.
Hi thanks for that, I used PPG, Max mayer befor take this job now been there 6 months and getting my head around it. yea i noticed colour are lighter in sunlight etc.
